The v2 Rugby Podcast
Hi all,
Last night several 606v2 posters got together to have a chat about all things rugby. And the result was the first edition of the v2 Rugby Podcast.
To hear the result click here: http://www.v2journal.com/v2-rugby-podcast-1-29th-august.html
We had a pretty wide ranging chat, part one looks into the Rugby Championship, the ITM and Currie Cups along with the Top 14, plus a smidgen of Pro 12 at the end. Part 2 continues the Pro12 chat then moves on to the Aviva Prem.
We're hoping to make this a regular feature so please let us know what you think.

Dreamer don't be stupid. You don't SEE a podcast you LISTEN to it.
Ozzy was giving out about Llanelli the whole time you wouldn't like it at all.

Right, we're there. In the end I loaded it as is, warts and all as my laptop's almost as grumpy as me today!

I thought you said the reason they were over-excited was due to constantly trying to find ways to praise Warburton and Lydiate

Careful now AWOP, that English you're learning is going a bit Americanised.

there is an odd audio effect going on when you listen on headphones!
Kiwi is in one ear and the other guests are in the other ear! its an odd experience!
Will feedback when I have finished. Good quality sound though.

just to let you know that it cuts out at the end of part 2 (nothing major but a bit abrupt)
Very good though guys

I think it was a good first effort, but we can definitely make it better. Are we looking at doing it as a weekly thing? (not necessarily yhe same people every week)

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
Having got up to 4 episodes on the wrestling podcast now. it will become more natural.
The format we have decided on (which is obviously different to real competitive events) is a review of the last show (about 30 minutes for the two shows we review) and then 15 to 30 minutes on a random topic of interest.
we have also started to add in music (and soundbites - this weeks at the beginning of our second part was awesome - http://v2journal.com/v2-wrestling-podcast-28th-august.html ).
You will get into your groove soon enough - ours have got better each week and are much more fun now. We also had a guest this week - Paul Nicholson the pro darts player.

I will say that all of you sound typical of where you are supposed to be from. I didn't understand that Kiwi chap at times

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
I'll have to fiddle with the recorder software settings, I suspect the left vs right speaker settings is a "feature". We were cut off on 30 minutes on part 2 as the email with the passcode hadn't arrived (it did at 2am) and the trial mode is limited to 30 mins.
Good job we're not doing it tonight, my voice is pure gravel at the moment.

Tweeted it out, and a fella called Trevor Large who is a Gloucester fan and runs this...

... has retweeted it for me. He has about 3500 followers and pretty much all are rugby fans so hopefully the v2journal can pick up some followers from it.

I think Podcasts work best with a core with guests coming in and out.
get a few people as regulars and then bring in guess.

Not sure if there are charges involved in posting to iTunes but you should look into it anyway. I'll try to get it on my phone some other way but not sure how...

I dont have a iphone but when I go to the webpage on my HTC and hit the file option it says I can either play online or download - thats how I got it onto my phone.
Not sure if that helps.
We are looking into Itunes but its not as easy as you think!

Folks, if anyone has any ideas for how to improve upon the podcast, be it format or topics or anything really, please do not hesitate to say, as we want it to be really good and something people can enjoy listening to. Ta

get better hosts!
The only thing I would say is get a bit more pazazz about the opening (ie some intro music) and try and inject a bit of fun into the proceedings.
I dont want to use the wrestling one as a template as it provides ample opportunity for fun poking but if you listen to it you will get an idea of what I mean (listen to the last 5 minutes of part two this week).
For a first effort though, I thought it was excellent though
Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
Yeah, I think a bit more banter woudl definitely be good. I shall have a listen to the wrestling one tonight to hear how that goes.

Ah now AWOP all three of us belittled Australia for you
I agree on banter. I do think that maybe myself and Ozzy aren't a great combination for banter as we are a bit too similar although I am chuffed that they took Tomas O'Leary off us.

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
Good start boys. Have a mate who does an ironman podcast. Regular features are good. For example, they have coach's corner, age grouper of the week, website of the week, Hi five (training tips). Obviously not all of those are transferable but having regular features helps with continuity.
It's a great opportunity to ask the V2 members to contribute material. The onus isn't necessarily on you. So this thread is a good opportunity to note down what people would like. I like your updates around the world with the different comps. Maybe you could isolate some games and either talk about the pre match hype or give a match report if it was a good one. Having a competition trying to pick match results would be easy enough to coordinate with these boards.
Personally I'd like to have something like plays of the week. Describe a set piece move, an individual bit of brilliance.
Talking about form players and having a World XV is always a good way of generating debate.
Bit more work but profiling an upcoming player and hooking up an interview with somebody to get an insight into a professional player and asking them questions that aren't your bog standard journalistic tripe.
So well done boys and good luck for the rest to follow.

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
They're great suggestions Kiakahaaotearoa.
Im happy to continue to contribute whether it is speaking on the podcast as I did last time (I know one poster mentioned having regular contributors) or else providing material to others who want a go.

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
I agree, great ideas Kia.
I'm going to see if we can record another one next Wednesday night, and will be working through a wee content plan over the weekend.
For the 1st one we just had a list of subject areas, plus copies of draws and points tables in front of us and winged it.

Re: The v2 Rugby Podcast
Dusatoir 53 tackles in one game. Dagg 103 metres gained.
A history section of the show would be a good idea. Dig up a tour, team or game from the past that you feel should be known about but probably isn't.

Maybe something like, "people think the AP is a bosh fest but if you look at the stats, there were twice as many tries scored by backs in the AP last week compared to the Pro12 and Top14 combined". Just interesting tidbits of numeric based trivia. If you want I could provide one each week? Not for me to read out myself of course, but i could send one in to you?

I'd be delighted Pete.
But for the record, I retain all rights to the name "Mickado's Stat of the week", henseforth known as "MSOTW", including, but not limited to, any MSOTW jingle, movie rights, tv spin off, cartoon advertisement and breakfast ceral.
I'll set a reminder on Mondays to take a look at the stats from the previous week and see if I can come up with anything, if i can't find anything interesting enough I'll just let you know i got nothing. Worth a bash i suppose!
