Football semi finals 02/09/12
First topic message reminder :
So, here we are. The other All Ireland Football semi final is about to start. The Dubs Minors won their match this afternoon against Kerry 3-12 to 1-10 and will face Meath on the 23rd of September. Can the grown ups do the same by sending Mayo on their way? I'm not so sure....It's also been confirmed that Alan Brogan will not play this afternoon. He's been replaced by Ciáran Kilkenny.
UP THE DUBS!!!

Balls. Well done Mayo. That was a superb semi - lots of drama and a great first half from Mayo.

GAA tried to hand it to Dublin as did Mayo but they held on. Donegal by 5 points.
Dublin were never a great team, neither are Cork. Dublin have about 3 fellas on their team who are good points scorers you shut them down, you shut the team down. That's pretty much what happened

Dublin were like headless chickens until the last twenty minutes or so. No leadership, no co-ordination. They haven't been as good this year. I don't think they'd have won the final with another performance like that. Maybe this loss will help them in the long run, and they'll come back next year.

Really? Donegal will win it I think. Brogan got bigger than the team according to RTE. Bottled it big time today and this season.

Do you mean Bernie, Thom? Totally agree. He's been pishing about this year playing the celebrity and it's messing with his football brain. He needs to be brought back down to earth a bit.

Yep, sure Alan has always been a model professional. He was a massive loss. He is way more important to the team than BB. There's Cork arrogance but Dublin cockiness. Difference we don't let it intefere with out sports We just go down the stupid play route and get bulldozed by a team with a great defence and counterattack

Very good match to watch from a neutrals perspective, Mayo did very well but could have conceded at the end twice, well done to them anyway, the final is completley up in the air(although it always was i guess)

I think Donegal will beat them well. They've knocked out Armagh, Kerry and Cork already! I'd say Mayo aren't as good as any of those sides.

Mayo are better than Tyrone.
Interestingly, these are two teams in year 2 under new managers.
Both employed terrible tactics last year and look to be slightly more attractive this year. (See Dublin last year)
I think the style is here to stay for a little while at least and it will be here until someone can come up with something to beat it.
Maybe the cycle of a team is a bit shorter with this massive intensity.
Now that Cork can't win it, I would love it to be Mayo. They have suffered more than anyone down through the years.
I think it is Donegal time though. I was convinced we'd beat them last week. The plans just fell apart under pressure and there is something else needed to overcome it. It is very impressive and hugely frustrating.

Dubs are only a one-hit wonder. And at that it took Kerry to hand it to them. When you look down through the Dublin team you just realise that the vast majority are just mediocre players and who got lucky once.

Re: Football semi finals 02/09/12
A bit unfair that on Dublin.........they have after all won about 8 of the last 10 leinsters...............and have been there or thereabouts for a long time...................they got lucky last year all right but lacked some luck in previous years.........and in fairness to them, they played like champions for the last 20 yesterday.......................
At present there is no team in Ireland that's dominating like Kerry & Tyrone did.........if anything though, the quality of football is gettinng better overall...........

And The Dubs still didn't win it because they just weren't good enough. They wasted too much time messing about in the first half. Oh well...be interesting to watch the final anyway although I'm not supporting Mayo or Donegal particularly. AND at least the Baby Dubs have a final to play in later this month

Yeah and Kerry are now a shower of bottlers/hasbeens that can't dive and cheat their way to all Irelands any more.

Oh yeah that's what it comes down to. I was kind of happy they lost in some ways and not in others.
