I noticed Mike. I just hope we make the semis so I can see Ellyse Perry. Your Holly Colvin gal looks nice too! Very Happy

What's the story with Billy Bowden? He's fallen from ICC favour has he? I know he made a few blunders over the years but still... not a bad gig umpiring the women.

116/1 now 59 runs off 50 balls required.

Can Sri Lanka mess this up? First the remarkably stupid run-out of Sangakara (I did mention in a previous game that Dilshan's running, whilst fast, is a bit dodgy at times), then Mendis with a poor knock. Should still be fine, but just a bit of pressure on now.

28 from the last 3 overs. Southee has done ok at the death recently, looks to bowl widish yorkers mainly with a bit of reverse.

Could be interesting.

Sri Lanka should have put this to bed. Top heavy? You betcha.

Southee hits his length and it's 21 off 2.

This would be an astonishing turn-around.

Fine blow from Dilshan brings it back in SL's favour. Franklin had bowled a very good spell, but that could be costly.

And there it is, Perera slices one over point. But gone to a nice slower ball, trying for some reason to swipe another one. Franklin's bowled quite a good spell here.

8 off the last over, Southee to bowl it.

Sides will fancy Sri Lanka if they can get a couple of early wickets.

Sri Lanka are very ordinary after their top 3, you're right Mike.

Got lucky here after some poor middle order batting.

Drama! Thirimanne swings and misses at one outside off.

5 off 2. The ramp shot! Thirimanne moves a long way to the off side, Southee follows him when he should have probably aimed at the stumps, and it goes over fine leg for 4.

1 off 1. The short ball! Thirimanne swings and misses, hits his body, go for a suicidal single, throw in to the bowlers end perfect bounce throw to Taylor who drops it! Onto the stumps! Thirimanne is run out and we have a super over!!!

Super over:

Southee surely to bowl for New Zealand, SL will bat with their top 3 unless Perera makes a surprise appearance? No, surely the top 3 is the way to go.

Malinga you would feel will bowl Sri Lanka's. McCullum and Nicol will be two of the batsmen, and should open, with Taylor or Guptil at 3 (I'd go Guptil, more likely to hit Malinga imo, but I think NZ will go Taylor).

For SL I'd go Dilshan, Jayawardene, Mathews with Malinga bowling

For NZ I'd go McCullum, Taylor, Guptill with Southee bowling

I'm backing NZ here. I think Southee will pull it off, he is in the groove already.

SL have to with Dilshan, Jayawardene and Sanga. They are the best three players, it would be very dangerous to go with anyone else.

Perera has got the nod though....

Will Taylor man up for NZ?

Perera is going to make an appearance. Brave move, but he can hit a cricket ball. I'm with JD though, I'd have gone with the 3 best players (who were all in good touch let's not forget). Form counts as much as quality in this situation. New Zealand won't want to be chasing more than 12 I guess.

Also needs pointing out that New Zealand's fielding was brilliant, saved a few 2s, got those 2 run outs with fast accurate throws and Oram's big dive in the 18th over? Saved 2 runs...

Here we go.

SL 13-1. Good over for Southee bar the two wides. Money is on SL, as NZ need 14 to win as if they tie then SL win as far as I can make out...

Humm, 3 off the last ball when it should have first been a wicket, then at most 2.

New Zealand need 14. Still in the balance.

2 wides could be costly, but otherwise good over from Southee. Less good from McCullum having a real go at Taufel (who, as usual, got it spot on).

Does the other umpire take the other over?

Game over, Guptil gets too much under one, and Dilshan takes a brilliant catch at long-off. 8 off 1 could prove tricky.

Agreed, in the group stages MSP. A super over obviously becomes relevant once the knockout stages are entered, unless they just had a boundary countback right away.

Yeah I like the super over as a decider in the knock-outs. Better than "whoever finished first in the group" or boundary countback or whoever scores the most in the first x overs, or even wickets for me.

But nothing wrong with a tie in the group stages.

takes on from Basketball/Baseball where I think you have to have a winner?
