Uachtaráin my Uachtaráin
Firstly, I am glad it wasn't Tom Daly. he is only a young fella and we know his first love is diving. This would have been bad news for 33 counties, but good news for Kerry, who are without a doubt the Nations' finest exponent of the dive.
Secondly (and seriously) good luck Mr President. I hope you don't cost as much as Cooney. I hope you aren't as fat headed as brennan and as smug as kelly.
It is going to be a rough period for the association. Very best of luck.;
Liam O'Neill of Laois has been confirmed as president-elect of the GAA at Congress in Mullingar on Friday evening.
O'Neill was the only candidate left standing in a race which originally included four candidates.
But Sheamus Howlin, Con Hogan and Tom Daly withdrew from the contest at various stages over the last few months. Howlin, the last man to step out, exited in February making O'Neill's victory in the contest a formality.
O'Neill will now spend one year as president-elect before taking over from Christy Cooney and beginning a three-year term in April 2012.
During the campaign, O'Neill proposed making significant changes to the GAA's disciplinary procedures.
To speed up disciplinary processes, he suggested that a three-man board with substantial powers should meet every Monday to deal with issues arising from matches quickly.
He has also highlighted pitch invasions and the traditional post-match All-Ireland final speech by the winning captain as areas in need of reform.
He backed supporting the growth of hurling in weaker counties such as Antrim, Down, Westmeath, Carlow and Laois at the outset of his campaign in December.
O'Neill is a former chairman of the Leinster Council and is the principal of Trumera National School.
He was chairman of the Disciplinary Task Force, which oversaw the introduction of experimental rules in the 2010 league campaigns in football and hurling, the majority of which were rejected at Congress last year.

Sean Kelly, smug. Well I wouldn't expect anything else from a politician, and he was a kerryman to boot. You don't write the news stories for RTE sport by any chance do you RB? Speaking of Uachtarains, will our grand exhaulted leader from the other place be moving over or is he going down with the ship? I'm starting to doubt his decision-making abilities atm, he seems to be more concerned with alien abductions of ross mconnell.
And good luck to the new GAA pres elect-
P.S. leave post-match traditions alone
P.P.S. Can we have the try added as an official method of scoring?

I did steal it directly off RTE...I should have referenced it too.
I'd say IA will make the jump. No point being the president of a rotten borough. He may as well come over here and fight for his status as President.
I wonder how many other candidates will throw their hat into the ring.
I have also just realised that there are equality issues for TPHBSC. Females are severely under-represented. Perhaps this is a beard issue. Either way,we need direction.
* the PPS also known as the Sheridan ruling.

Re: Uachtaráin my Uachtaráin
When everyone (hopefully) emigrates here I think I'll organise a few election polls. Not that I think we'll need one, but I'll put on a vote for official GAA mod. And we'll have a new presidential election, and a general election for the position of Taoiseach (a first for TPHBSC).
These issues do need looking into, although there are a few lassies in my area who'd disprove that its the beard policy that's to blame.
If there is a sheridan ruling I'll be changing my prediction from Mayo/ or dubs to Meath as Joe has already proved that we have the greatest try scoring ability in the country. And at 4pts in league and 5pts in union it's well better than any goal the oppostion can score!

If sportydan doesn't run for office, no doubt he will be minister for finance.
John Cregan can be minister for flick knives.

Welcome aboard lads. Should be some good craic during this years championship. Once everyone's here I'll start an entry thread for the election, so put yer name on if you want to run for office. If unelected as Uachtarain, I'll happily be minister for flick knives if there's no takers- I've got tons of experience for that anyway.

Re: Uachtaráin my Uachtaráin
A bit like when super-man left krypton. He left there a normal baby from Krypton, but when he came to earth, he was judged a little differently. Whilst IA is the president over on 606, it would be absolutely undemocratic should he bring the title of president with him to his new domain.
With your skills at adding up, i'd say you'd make a worthy candidate to contest the position. History has a way of repeating itself too. First president of ireland?
ROSCOMMON
First president of 606v2?.......??????

I wouldn't be a very good president cause I'm not as clued up on GAA as you lot (yet!) plus that'd mean there'd be no one to make the tea....

Cari, the position of Uachtaráin requires no knowledge at all..
The camogie association is separate from the GAA.. perhaps there is a position for Uachtaráiness there?
