C'mon, know this is a British forum but J. M. Lopez lost last night in a major upset!

Juanma loses Empty Re: Juanma loses

Post by bellchees Sun 17 Apr 2011, 11:12 am

Just watched the fight, thought the stoppage was a bit early but I couldn't see Lopez turning it round if he was allowed to continue. That leaves a Gamboa vs Lopez fight in ruins.

Best thing about this is that Arum's had his fingers burnt waiting to build up Juanma-Gamboa.

Very disappointed about this. Lopez vs Gamboa was a fight I really wanted to see.

Not watched it yet but thought Lopez would win this. Gamboa wasn't great the night he beat Solis but still got a deserved wide UD over him. This leaves Gamboa vs Lopez in ruins which is a shame because I was really looking forward to it.

Thought it was an early stoppage too. Also delighted for Arum. Serves him right for overcooking a Gambo fight. I suspect he knew that Gambo has the beating of Juma.

I thought this was going to happen in the Rafael Marquez fight. He was waiting to be exposed. Remember when Lopez gets hurt he has no idea how to survive crisis moments

Thought Gamboa vs Lopez was a real 50/50 fight Gamboa maybe just edging it with his boxing ability. Who now for Gamboa though? Solis he dealt with easily the last time. John would be a good fight but their isn't much out their apart from that.

Have always said he's a bit easy to hit and not the beet chin, always said gamboa wouldve beaten him. Of course this doesn't prove that, but it does highlight the flaws in juanma's game, but he's still a young fighter and a loss could be good for him in the long run as it can be a valuable learning curve. Far too much stock is placed on being undefeated. Serves Arum right tho, he's been cooking Lopez v Gamboa for too long. Maybe if he sees weaknesses in lopez' game that other fighters may exploit he might just feed him to gamboa sooner rather than later, who knows, but the man has no regard for the fans so it's always nice to see him get his fingers burnt.

Lopez would still be a great fight for gamboa due to the styles. John was fighting this weekend I think against Daud Yordan in Indonesia, can't see anything about the result. John's a quality operator but needs to get back in the mix with the big boys of the division before he really becomes the forgotten man and fades away. Hasegawa holds the WBC title and could be a decent fight, but montiel dealt with him easy enough at bantam and gamboa should be too big I'd think.

I thought he won the vacant WBC title at the end of '10, unless he's lost it since and I've missed it. Who does hold it then?

The Lopez fight would be interesting but Arum was trying to build it up so don't really know where it leaves it now. The John fight is in Indonesia so isn't until today at some point. Hasegawa isn't the WBC champ anymore lost it to Gonzalez earlier this month.

I'll have to track it down then. Only fight I saw this weekend was Munroe. Lot of youtubing tonight.

Agree Balti, love the fact that Arum must be fuming.

Everyone was screaming for the fight now but Arum wanted to milk it so glad to see Arum screw up LOL!

Now where does Gamboa go from here he was lined up for a summer bout against JuanMa he's not going to fight Salido again,he'll probably chase for a fight against another champion in the division or move up in weight.

The only other fight at 126lbs is John. Juanma vs Gamboa won't happen until Juanma rebuilds. If he moves up in weight then it would need to be to 135lbs because 130lbs is an awful division. Two Japanese champs that don't leave Japan in Uchiyama and AO, a 37 year old Mzonke Fana who has already stated he won't fight outside Africa if he can help it and doesn't have long left. Then theirs Ricky Burns.

Strange time for the ref to stop the fight Lopez looked fine and was still throwing puches. But based purely on that performance he is very lucky it was Salido he was in against and not Gamboa because Gamboa would have made quick work of him.
