Booing old managers and players
There is a big debate on twitter with Norwich fans as to the whole 'booing' Paul Lambert issue.
My personal opinions on this specific case, is that anyone who boos Lambert, in my eyes is quite frankly stupid and ungrateful. What he done for our club, we could and should only be grateful for, and while he did leave in unceremonial circumstances, too boo him for leaving would be childish in my eyes. I for one will be clapping him, and let him know that I appreciate what he did for my football club.
Just wondered what the general feeling was on booing of old managers and players?

Well yeah I am gonna get behind Chrissy Hughton at all times, but some want to boo Lambert before and after the game and I dont think that is right

Exactly, he was always going to move on at some point. I think we should thank him, for turning our club around and for giving us the opportunity to establish ourselves as a Premier League football club

If your wife left you to go out with a super model would you thank her and accept it?

No but that is not the same is it GSC.
It's not as if he has slagged us off, he has had nothing but praise for Norwich. He wanted to move on, he did. Some Norwich fans cant seem to get over that

Re: Booing old managers and players
The thing with football managers is that a lower league club is always just a platform for them to gain experience, then move onto a bigger club when the time is right.
Managers want the top jobs and Lambert felt that moving to Aston Villa was a step up, so he took the job. Booing him is harsh.

Re: Booing old managers and players
I think it depends on the manner in which they left, and their attitude afterwards.
For example, Liverpool fans are unlikely to boo Xabi Alonso or Danny Murphy, but Fernando Torres is booed a lot.
This isn't down to success a clearly Torres was a big success at Liverpool, but it's down to attitude, he had a horrible attitude as he was leaving, and after he left so it's hard to ever really sympathise and respect him.
I think Paul Lambert shouldn't be booed, as he didn't disrespect the club during or after he left. He felt it was best for his career, and the club allowed him to do this.

I don't get the booing of players either, unless they have done something to really offend the club or fans then I won't boo a player leaving Liverpool.

My feelings too, I mean I hate Tevez for everything he did to us and its the same with you and with Owen and Torres.
I never understood Newcastle fans booing Enrique, hardly a big fall out was there. Newcastle got a decent fee and they parted ways on good terms.
Same with managers, as long as they didn't leave in a huff etc then there's no need to boo. Like with Lambert, Norwich fans should take Olly's point of view and look how far he toock that club from losing on the opening day in league 1 (?) when they lost 7-1 at home to Colchester. 3 years later they're in the PL.

I think it was because he said there is no way Newcastle will finish in the top 6 with the current management.

Just seen that now, he does look stupid.
Agger needs to shave his head now so we can have an entirely bald/shaven back 5.

Pantomine booing is fine so long as there isn't personal insults.
Only takes 1 to boo him then dozens more get into it.

I'd boo Ronaldo if I ever saw him. I appreciate everything he ever did but I really dislike his attitude.

Re: Booing old managers and players
I think Pantomine booing is good and is a bit of a laugh (for the players as well) - in rugby it goes on all the time and there's nothing malicious in it at all (and even stuff like "the referee's a W***** because it's such a standard thing to say). But it's when it's done maliciously and there's personal insults being hurled at players or racial/sexist abuse being thrown their way that it gets wrong - and unfortunately there's way too much of that in football, and seems to be some fans first point of call if a player/manager leaves or even says/does something the fan doesn't like (which is quite easy to do with newspapers misquoting on purpose)

Re: Booing old managers and players
Booing in certain circumstances can be quite amusing. For example I watch Rugby League, one week our fullback Brett Hodgson had scored 5 conversions, he missed and we booed, all in jest and he took it that way and gave a thumbs up to the fans.
Booing an ex manager or player is something I never have done and never will do. Even if they leave slagging off the club, dont give them the pleasure of knowing you care about their actions.

Re: Booing old managers and players
I agree David - in rugby union I was watching a game where a little french full back (about 5ft 2) was causing us all sorts of problems all game and got a boo in jest when he tackled on of our players, then in the next phase he got tackled into touch and a shout came from the crowd of "your not so big now are you". All meant in jest and got a few laughs from the players as well.
It's when it gets malicous that it's a problem and personal (such as accusing players of peidophilia) or attacking their creed, race, sexual orientation ect that is when it gets to be a problem, and can be a big problem
