Re: Aviva Premiership - Stats post Round 3
Two teams stand out for me:
Bath - kick the most, pass the least, make the least ground ball in hand. That they concede most lineouts and secure the least turnovers explain why they have to make so many tackles.
Saracens - slightly perverse. Kick a lot, while tackling most suggests they give the ball away - yet at the same time they show up really well in the attacking stats.

Interesting stats. Anything to do with handling stats anywhere?
In regards to Saracens I think it's that they are trying to mix up their play contrary to what people say but are let down by poor handling when in a decent position. Certainly against Sale and Leicester.

Probably as they have had 1 1/2 matches of fairly dominant attack and 1 1/2 matches of very defensive stuff

Some more stats in regards to round 3.
Bath have 2 players in the top tackle stats - Fearns with 17 and Taylor with 15.
Saracens have 3 players - Borthwick with 16, Brown and Barritt both 13.
That's in 1 game.

Re: Aviva Premiership - Stats post Round 3

Its really hard to read much into these

Re: Aviva Premiership - Stats post Round 3
It says to me that there's something missing from those stats. The real difference between winning and losing seems to me to be about scoring chances. Points scored per visit to (or minute in) the opposition 22 and points conceded per minute in your own 22 seem to me to be the stats that really count...

Not available sadly.
In the end the only important stat is whether you win. but each team will have analysts studying stats and tapes to identify weaknesses.

LondonTiger not just that. Scoring 4 tries and being within 7 points are also very important. It can mean the difference between topping the AP table and not.

Nah - my favourite is
"85% of all statistics are made up"
unfortunately with rugby stats the data making them is often quite subjective. Defining what is a missed tackle, who is a defender beaten etc can all lead to errors.

Did any one else chuckle at the Sky guys praising Bath for having found this 'conservative' 'balanced' game plan based around territory and kicking the ball away.
But then they love to get stuck in to Saracens for exactly the same thing.

I don't need stats to prove that! But if you're going to judge Bath's performance by stats, we really need to see what the points per prawn sandwich ratio is

Very low, even when you add in glasses of Pimms consumedHongKongCherry wrote:LondonTiger wrote:Oh, and HKC.

Yes. I am afraid that is because of Harlequins' traditional, but deeply unjust, near-monopoly on Prawn sandwiches and Pimms. To which they have recently added Points.

No, no dahling.
Prawn sandwiches are, so for the common folk.
Down in Twickers we like Lobster and Prawn served in stonebaked foccacia. all offset with a delightfully chilled glass of Moet.
