Re: HEINEKEN CUP, MATCH OFFICIALS - ROUNDS 1 & 2
Nice list PenfroPete
What's everyone's thoughts on the refs for their games?
Don't know what John Lacey's like. Can anyone tell me their thoughts on him?
Very pleased to have Nigel Owens in round 2. He's a good ref.
Simply relieved not to have Alan Rollaind the French Irishman. Poor Saints.

Re: HEINEKEN CUP, MATCH OFFICIALS - ROUNDS 1 & 2
Beshocked, I think John Lacey is one of the much better Irish referees. Very different style to Rolland for example.
He played to a very high level (international 7s team, Heineken Cup, Ireland A teams etc)
He is now a community development officer with Munster and plays a big part in our underage development.
Basically he is only reffing about 5 years and has a really good feel for the game, much higher than most referees.

Thanks for the info red stag. I am pleased he's got a different style to Rolland.
I think it's good to have that experience playing because it gives you more of a feel of the game and you have more of an understanding of what the players are going through.
I certainly don't like Rolland's style. I feel like Rolland wants to be the star of the show.
Refereeing is certainly an unenviable task.
Though I am not sure it's right to have a ref that has close connections with Munster in our pool match!

Beshcoked - don't forget that Rolland also played to a high level in fact to a much higher level - he played Six Nations rugby.
I have no doubt that one of the 4 English match officials in our game against Racing Metro have a Sarries connection.

Re: HEINEKEN CUP, MATCH OFFICIALS - ROUNDS 1 & 2
Not a big fan of Mr Clancy, truth be told. Me experience has been that he's very pernickety and not one to let the game flow, which is generally bad news for Quins.
Probably a day to field the strongest pack we can muster... or hope for good weather and just avoid the breakdown altogether.
M. Garces is much more my cup of tea (and French refs in general, truth be told).

Llyr Apgeraint-Roberts (England) assisting at a Scarlets game - look out if there's any controversail decisions

All French officials for our game against Exeter. All English for our game v Scarlets........Almost.
Fine by me. Bring it on.
Beshocked are you sure you are not confusing Rolland with Steve Walsh?

I ain't actually hear of any of them (bar Fitzgibon).
It seems weird that all the matches seem to be going to one nation to offiiciate.

Seem to remember it's been that way for a few seasons, makes it easier for them to work as a "team" I guess
Greg Garner seems to have a bright future. If you watch the IRB Junior World CHampionship in South Africa this year, you may remember him. LINK
Next time I'm heading down to Wales' Premier County I'll drop you a PM, maybe we could chew the cud over a few

Cheers for the info Pete. And that sounds like a plan boss.
Also anyone know what is going on, where have all the established refs gone? It seems that all we have left at the moment are newbies (bar about one or two per nation).
