Week Twelve Results
- Tottenham 2-0 Man United:
Bale 42, 50
- Newcastle 2-0 Reading:
Arteta 16; Remy 24
- Liverpool P-P Chelsea:
Awaiting confirmation on the procedure for neither team handing in tactics
- Norwich vs Aston Villa:
Both teams went into this game in the mid-table places, but with different hopes. Norwich are only a few points above the relegation zone and are looking to climb to safety, whereas Aston Villa have hopes of getting European football next season. It was Norwich who made the stronger start and Grant Holt got on the end of a ball into the box by Pilkington and knocked it down for Rhodes but the shot was saved by Given. Norwich built on that early chance and Biglia sent a long range shot in which was deflected wide by Dunne, and Fabian Delph nearly deflected an Izaguirre cross into his own net. But, against the run of play, Aston Villa opened the scoring with a great move. Petrov came across and won the ball from Snodgrass, and played the ball out wide to Weiss, who played in Aquilani who had a lot of space and side-footed home an excellent finish to get the Villains the lead. Norwich didn't let their heads go down and Snodgrass beat Warnock once again and played a one-two with Martin before smashing a low shot in off the post to give Norwich an equalizer. However, Aston Villa quickly responded and N'Zogbia won the ball off Martin and made a run across the touchline before crossing for Ba to give Villa the lead on the stroke of half time.
The second half came and Norwich were determined to get back into the game, and nearly did straight away when Distin sent a header just wide from a corner. Biglia made a surging run through the centre and was brought down by Delph, right on the edge of the area. The free kick was sent in aiming for Holt but Olsson won the header and Aston Villa quickly counter-attacked, finding Agbonlahor who had stayed forward. He ran past Disrtin and Bennett with ease and was bearing down on goal but took a touch too many to make the angle more difficult. He went for the chip but Ruddy made an outstanding save to keep Norwich in with a chance. And they got a chance late on when a long goal kick found Holt, who headed it onto Rhodes and got into the box and was about to shoot before being brought down by Shay Given for what was given as a penalty, despite Given's arguing of diving. After a lengthy delay with players booked in an ugly fracas, Holt placed the ball for the penalty. Given continued to argue with the referee to delay but in the end Holt went for it. He shot high, aiming for the roof of the net with a lot of power and it was going in, but Given got a very strong hand to the ball to give Aston Villa the win.
The Expert Opinion (by Andy Gray)
Both teams set themselves up very well with a good gameplan. Norwich looked to play a deep line which worked well to some extent, but when Aston Villa got crosses into the box it caused problems at the Norwich centre backs just aren't good enough. The Aston Villa side is stronger across the pitch and deserved their win.
How the votes were spread
0-2-5
Norwich 1-2 Aston Villa
Snodgrass 29; Aquilani 24, Ba 42
- Stoke vs Swansea:
Stoke and Swansea both went into this game keen to get the three points, and it was Swansea who dominated the early proceedings with them dominating possession and getting forward well. Hernandez played a nice one two with Hoilett and went for a shot which hit the crossbar, and Hoilett sent in a long range strike which went wide in the pick of Swansea's early chances. However, it wasn't all Swansea and Stoke managed to create one good chance when Palacios won the ball and played it forward to Young down the left wing who cut inside and shot but Howard was equal to it. Figueroa then went for an audacious attempt spotting Howard not concentrating from just inside the Swansea half but hit the crossbar which woke up the Swansea goalkeeper just in time for a half time snack.
The second half started with a bang when Diaby was mugged in possession by Rodwell and he found Adebayor who flicked the ball back to Pablo Hernandez who smashed a powerful strike past Begovic to give Swansea the lead. Stoke went for it and four minutes later Crouch got on the end of a Kightly cross before blasting home. However, the goal was ruled out correctly as Crouch had controlled the ball with his hand. Mirallas then made a great run past Dann in a solo effort and had a shot deflected wide for a corner. It was whipped in well and Dann half-cleared to Young whose shot went past everyone but Tim Howard who superbly tipped the ball onto the post. Stoke responded with changes as Owen and Calvalho came on. However, it was Swansea who hit on the counter attack and Hoilett and Dyer were running riot down the wings and Dyer went into the box and went down under a Shawcross challenge expecting a penalty, which was not given. He made another run virtually identical a minute later and this time cut through the defense to get one on one with Begovic but the Stoke keeper made himself big and superbly saved. Stoke then got a free kick in the centre circle for a silly challenge on Palacios by Hernandez. With the Swansea players angrily arguing with the referee, Figueroa went for the spectacular and blasted his shot on target. He completely caught Howard out and scored to end the game in a fair draw.
The Expert Opinion (by Andy Townsend)
This was a very entertaining game between two teams playing completely different styles. Swansea were trying to play nice football but Stoke were simply not allowing them to. They were very good in the centre with Adebayor struggling against Huth and Shawcross, but Hoilett and Dyer ran them ragged out wide. A very tight game, but a draw a fair result.
How the votes were spread:
2-3-2
Stoke 1-1 Swansea
Figueroa 90+4; Hernandez 48
- West Ham P-P Fulham:
Match postponed.
- Arsenal vs Everton:
It was third against fourth in this massive clash. Both teams had faint hopes of winning the title, which Arsenal probably expected going into the season but Everton were certainly one of the over-achievers this season. And in the early stages of the game, there weren't too many chances. Arsenal had the ball but Everton were quick to pressure when the ball came towards them. They got the best chance on the counter attack when Diame won the ball from Oscar and played the ball through to Lennon who beat Gibbs easily and crossed for Jelavic whose header was going in but for a brilliant save by Szczesny to tip it around the post for a corner. Arsenal tried to get the ball to their attacking players but they weren't given any time on it and Van Persie was starved of service. They created one big chance in the first half just before half time when Podolski made an excellent run into the box without being spotted and received Sagna's diagonal ball. He got past Jagielka's challenge and shot but it went well wide when he probably should have scored.
Everton continued to make life difficult for Arsenal but looked strong on the counter attack. Pranjic got the ball from a nice Parker pass and turned, finding Sinclair in space out wide. He cut inside and played the ball back to Parker who was lurking on the edge of the area and he was chopped down by M'Vila. It was adjudged to be just on the edge of the box, so not a penalty. Sinclair took the freekick and found Evans in the box who rose above Koscielny and nodded it on target but Gibbs cleared the ball off the line. Everton were slightly having the upper hand and brought on Downing, who used his fresh legs to run at the Arsenal defense and danced past Song and played in Jelavic who dragged Vermaelen wide and left space for Sinclair to shoot but he hit the post. Arsenal then made a massive chance when Cazorla took on and beat Enrique. He got into the box and played the ball back to the onrushing Alex Song but instead of shooting, he took the wrong option and passed to Oscar as Jagielka dived in to clear. It looked like the game was heading for a draw but there was time for one more chance as Vermaelen played the ball long to Oscar, who broke past Diame and ran between Gibbs and Vermaelen as Van Persie got central. Oscar squared for Van Persie who couldn't miss, as he scored a late goal to give Arsenal the lead. However, the game wasn't over with eight minutes left and Everton had one chance in injury time when Santon made a good overlapping run and found Jelavic in the box who half volleyed his shot, which was going into the top corner before Szczesny got there to give Arsenal the win and end Everton's impressive unbeaten run.
The Expert Opinion (by Garth Crooks)
It was cruel on Everton who had set up very well to deal with Arsenal's threats. They were tight in midfield and sat deep, but they struggled to deal with the Arsenal attackers. Oscar, despite being man-marked by Diame was creative. Everton were unlucky, but Arsenal just about deserved the win.
How the votes were spread:
3-3-0
Arsenal 1-0 Everton
Van Persie 82
- West Brom vs Southampton:
Two teams in the relegation zone tried to win this game to give them a crucial three points, and it was West Brom who got the first big chance after a few minutes when Odemwingie was played in by Pienaar and he sidefooted wide badly. He made no mistake five minutes later though when he got on the end of Buttner's cross. His header flew past Jones to give them the lead early on. Southampton then finally woke up and looked to get back into the game with Richardson winning the ball and crossing for Lambert who sent his header wide. Southampton got more and more men forward but were hit on a sucker punch on the stroke of half time when Gomes played a long ball forward after making a save from a long range Adam strike. Chico Flores's header landed at Wanyama's feet who passed the ball simply to Granero who put an accurate shot into the bottom corner to double their lead on the stroke of half time.
The second half started and West Brom quickly added a third goal as they were romping home with Odemwingie calmly slotting home after good work from Pienaar. Southampton looked to quickly hit back, they were playing for pride if nothing else and Lallana drove a long range shot which was dropped by Gomes and Lambert was in the right place but Vlaar chopped him down for what should have been a penalty and was eventually rightly given. Lambert stepped up himself to take the penalty and blasted it past Gomes ferociously to reduce the deficit. Southampton were piling men forward and three minutes later Lambert got a header come back off the post after getting on the end of a pinpoint Lopez cross. Maxi then won a free kick on the edge of the area and took it himself. Melberg got a header in which was blocked by a hand. Southampton got a second penalty and Lambert once again stepped up to take it. Once more he went for power but overhit it and hit the crossbar. This ended Southampton's chances of getting anything out of the game as West Brom won this crucial six-pointer.
The Expert Opinion (by Jamie Redknapp)
West Brom's revival continued with what could prove to be a crucial win today. They had the better players in what was a tight game. The likes of Granero and Pienaar got possession and dominated the centre of midfield to give them the win.
How the votes were spread:
3-3-1
West Brom 3-1 Southampton
Odemwingie 14, 48, Granero 40; Lambert 77 (pen)

What do you want to do about the Liverpool/Chelsea game?
0-0 draw or both sides hand in tactics by, say, tomorrow 10pm and then votes on that?

I'm happy to get tactics done for today but I'm completely happy to have 0 points also, whatever call you make i'll support it.
Apologies again guys, should be back to normal this week with lectures starting, will be on the laptop allot more as a result.

Knew I'd jinxed it after mentioning that I was unbeaten (even if I believe that my side would have held that Arsenal side)
Still well played Cap

I think the Captain signing Oscar was a masterstroke personally, the extra creativity was too much for Parker and Diame IMO. I know there were instructions to kick Oscar but that doesn't always work

Fair enough, there wasn't a great deal except for physically getting at him that I could do.
Onwards and upwards, still ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool and United

I think 3rd is yours Gregers, but Spurs and Arsenal are the stand out top two (credit should go to Nando for Arsenal's performance too)

Re: Week Twelve Results
I think whether you said you were unbeaten or not didn't really make a difference. Oscar and Cazorla both stood out in that game for me

Re: Week Twelve Results
Oscar and Cazorla are (based on one Champions League game in Oscar's case) two of the most in-form AM's in the country in real life, so will be rated highly.
