Andy Murray interview post USO

Not a regular reader of The Independent but found myself skimming through a copy yesterday (waiting for tyres to be fitted to my car....) and thought their 'exclusive' double page spread interview with Andy Murray was a pretty good read.

The insight into his mindset during the very last stages of the USO Final was perhaps more revealing than we had heard previously.

Andy Murray - US Open champion. There. I've said it. And in our lifetimes, too. My old mum - still going strong at 91 - was a slip of a lass of 15 when Fred Perry last won a Slam. I suppose anyone who has ever played at any level has sometimes dreamed of serving to win a slam. Well, Andy M has now lived the dream.

Indeed he has.

It's a long, long way from the public courts of Dunblane to picking up a glittering trophy at the biggest tennis stadium in the world, as the victor in a Final broadcast to 180 countries......
