A Film To Remake Empty A Film To Remake

Post by Stella Tue 09 Oct 2012, 12:28 pm

I was watching Jaws the other day, thinking, that Shark looks less realistic each time I watch it. Now, I know the shark doesn't make this film great but I did think a remake of this classic with a CGI Shark might be ok.

Are there any other old films that need a remake?

Interesting comment about Jaws. It is perhaps worth remembering that the shark was meant to appear a lot more in the movie, but that they had so many problems with the mechanical shark that it ended up only really featuring in the climax and as a fin in the background a few times, while Spielberg had to rely more on filming the actors reaction to what they were supposedly seeing.

A CGI version could reasonably be made to the original plan, and it would be interesting to compare how the two versions stack up in terms of the tension created. My suspicion is that the original would be better.

The fear also came from the music. many scenes were just water and that haunting piece from John Williams.

Two of the reasons for Jaw's success are already dead.

The five reasons for the success of Jaws in my eyes was cinematography, Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and a wonderful script.

The shark? Well...who needs him Wink

A film to remake................ the three recent Star Wars movies - done right this time and totally rethought from characters to story. With less CGI, less green screen, less chat and more real sets and real models. It was the dirt and chipped paint on the Millenium Falcon and other craft and the real locations that gave the worlds their realism.

I don't think Star Wars will ever be remade, and if they were, it'd be by George Lucas and in a horrible way which goes against what most people want. The problem is that Lucas has too much control over the franchise and so there was no filter, for the first 2 films (IV, V) there was a different writer. The prequel films are all written by Lucas, who most likely will have had complete creative control and it shows because they're awful.

Jaws is one of my all time favourite films so in a way i would prefer it to not be remade , however if someone did remake it then why not make it more true to the book (as in the characters )

I agree with your final comment, there is no way a CGI shark would be scarier.

Also, whenever you see an actual shark attack a boat, I'm always surprised how fake the real thing looks, the shark looks rubber in real life as well. Laugh

Totally agree with Stella above and Dummy in an earlier post about Jaws.

For me, the most shocking and moving parts did not feature the shark being shown. In particular, the pier scene where the wooden jetty is towed out to sea and then slowly turns before advancing on fisherman Charlie desperately swimming to the side and safety. Also, a little earlier in the film, where a middle aged mother seeks in vain on a crowded beach for her young son, already an early victim.

Good idea, I wonder how a CGI Julia Roberts would hold up against the original.

sorry for being a grump but i dont like any films being remade, cgi does nothing other than let the actors be more crappy because theres less pressure on them. look at clash of the titans, a film you would have thought would be perfect for a remake, yet its worst than the original even with its dodgy monsters.

think nostligia plays a part as well, the above for example was a child hood classic, same with jaws. only have to look at open water and deep blue sea to see that films with cgi sharks are normally cack

What about a remake of a film that was a good idea but just didn't work, Independence Day perhaps?

Loved the original but with the effects around these days I believe it could be an epic movie. Tweek the storyline slightly but I believe it could be a great remake

Grapes of Wrath deserves a remake - not for any CGI but because some of the acting, though the norm for the time, is a bit silly & the plot deviates from the book - but it's very relevant today.

And the LOTR should be remade with Guillermo del Toro directing.

If the feedback is anything to go by then 2001 A Space Oddysey should be remade and include more acting this time and less crappy music.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the Black Hole be remade because that could have been so much better.

A lot of films would benefit from remakes especially with advances in technology. However, there is a tendancy for filmakers to try and fix was isn't broke - a good example is "The Wicker Man". WTF they remade that I don't know. I think the films that would benefit a remake are those that were good ideas/scripts originally but got ruined by bad acting and/or poor filmaking.

I'd like to see a live action version of Akira, but apparently there wouldn't be a budget big enough to accommodate it so I'm not sure if anyone's willing to give it a go.

Someone mentioned a "darker" Pretty Woman - there is one...kind of...

Jaws is a timeless classic and should never be re-made, either this is a WUM to generate reactions or it's just a ridiculous statement to make.

First Blood was a great little movie. Nothing like its sequels - a stand alone little gem. And Stallone was perfect. He's not a bad actor when he chooses to and, as he also showed in the first Rocky, he can get into a character's personality and really turn out strong emotional performances.

If anyone wants to re-make a Rocky or a First Blood, choose one of the crud sequels of each.
