Rios v Matthysse. Allow me to dream

For me this would be a stone cold classic. Rios loves a tear up, and will fancy himself against anyone in a toe-to-toe battle because he has only ever won them, but against Lucas Matthysse????

Matthysse offence is a little more nuanced than Alvarado's, he hits harder than anyone except for maybe Golovkin p4p and is tough as a barenuckle boxing Gypsy.

Who would win this dream match-up?

Matthysse v KO for me

A fight I've been wishing for for a while now, but I feel it will only be a dream because if Arum

Arum has openly said that he wants Rios-Pacquiao and that it'll do huge numbers as as log as that's a possibility Rios won't be risked. He even said that he might not want a Rios-Alvarado rematch as it could get in the way of the pacquiao fight

De La Hoya said that he would make that fight in a heartbeat but Arum won't want to do business with GB. He would rather keep it in house and make more mine for himself

Rios actually wants the fight, he said that he wanted matthysse for the fight last night but they went for Alvarado instead.

On the fight, it will be all action and even better than last night, which is surely leading the FOTY awards for 2012. Rios made the transition very well and didn't allow mike to back him up and showed us that his chin is as strong as ever. He was never really hurt by Alvarado despite getting hit by everything while he showed that he has devastating power in both hands by stopping someone who has neve even down and took prescotts power for 10 rounds without blinking. I said that anyone who engages Rios and fights him toe-to-toe will be stopped. He is flawed but has a great inside game, lots of power and a granite chin.

However, if there was one fighter who could beat Rios at his own style it would be matthysse. Matthysse is my favourite fighter atm and is #2 at 140 behind Marquez. He hits like a train, harder than Alvarado, is technically sound, has a tight defense and a chin that could match Rios'. If Matthysse can take Rios' power he will win by stoppage as he is better than Rios, hits harder and takes less shots. He will break Rios down in the middle rounds and while Rios won't back down his chin will eventualy give in. If matthysse hits Rios with the amount of clean shots Alvarado did then he will be knocked out

It needs to happen but it won't unless Arum backs down, Matthysse KO round 8 if it does

Agree. Matthysse would beat Rios in a brawl. Rios is going to be a good slugger who will not be risked against pure boxers like Abril ever again. But one day his toughness will give out and he will be the one getting pancaked. Can't ship shots like Rios and expect a long career. Matthysse would maul him

Rios is a natural fighter and he's plenty of nous. Like the way he sucked in Alvarado last night, making it look like he was running on empty for a couple of rounds. Then bang.


But I'd favour Matthysse to beat him, maybe the first person to stop Rios. It's one of the best matches in boxing for me, and the winner of this would then be deserving of a shot at May or Paq. For Arum to give Rios a shot now is jumping the gun a bit for me, but what can you do! Honestly, Bob should just retire if he gets in the way of this one. Fantastic matchup.

It seems the hype for Matthysse is gathering momentum. If he hits so hard, how come he didn't stop Judah?

Still, a fight between him and Rios will be a classic. I'll be picking Matthysse not for his punch power but because he has better boxing skills and his straight punching will be the decider.

Because Judah was a veteran, which Matthysse was not, and he knew how to see out the fight. Dropped him though.

Could off finally made the Mayweather fight happen but he has signed a extension with Top Rank till 2014.
