New set of clubs.
I'm about to start playing again after 5 years and sold all my clubs about 2 years ago. Can anyone recommend a cheap set of clubs?

Where do you live? Gumtree perhaps for a 2nd hand set? Depends how serious you are going to take it and how much you want to spend.

I'm joining up to a club again and this a replacement for cricket as giving up due to ankle issues. Seen a set of Woodworm clubs on eBay but not sure how good they are.

Re: New set of clubs.
I would reccomend buying a second hand recognised brand of irons rather than are an unknown brand that cost similar amount

Not great in all honesty. Only really played with friends and had the occasional round at Carden Park in Wrexham which is a great course.
Found some on gumtree which are;
BEN SAYER drivers 1,3,5 and BEN SAYER putter
FAZER irons 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,sw,pw
DUNLOP BAG and TROLLEY
and only £50, just waiting for an email back.

Re: New set of clubs.
hampo,
No doubt some on here will scoff at the brands you mention above, but for £50 it seems a good set to get you going. Although I would haggle a bit, as I reckon you could get it down to below £40.
One thing to bear in mind is that although those clubs will do you just fine you will probably feel the urge to upgrade them quite quickly if you stick at the game.

Possibly going to invest in some new irons myself this winter. Might need to offload the 990s or MP32s though

Tend to agree with Mac. If you're not sure you'll get into it to any degree, what you have your eye on will probably be fine. Can always 'upgrade' later!

Full chat for £50 or a bit less. Perfect to begin with.
Just wait 'til the bug bites you and you want shiny, shiny new stuff... Tis a veritable shoppers paradise out there.

I agree. 50 quid all in sounds a good starter set. I paid just over a hundred for my first set of sticks and they done the job for a couple of months until the bug bit!!

For me, no point in buying a Ferrari if you drive like a blue rinse granny.

The £50 ones had gone but going to see a bloke about a set of Daytonas on Sunday which are £100, can't find Daytona golf clubs anywhere on the net though apart from the Taylor Mades. Anyone got any info for me?

Re: New set of clubs.
Daytona is a new one on me...
Perhaps put a "wanted" type ad in the local golf clubs/local free press and have a quick word with local pro shops? Sure there are bargains to be had.
I guess it's not too urgent given we are approaching winter, so maybe no rush? ('tis a hardy beginner that treads the links over the coming months).

Re: New set of clubs.
My local independent golf shop carries a good range of second hand/trade in stock at reasonable prices - I'd suggest you look for somewhere similar near you. The benefit is that (if they're any good) they'll look at your swing and give you advice on club selection, and even let you borrow a set to try out.

Good call on that option Bob .
Also, if you live near enough to one, drop by an American Golf. The one near me always has second hand sets - not loads but the turnover is quick enough.

Re: New set of clubs.
I cant get on ebay at work, but does anyone know how much 3-5 year old game improvement irons from the top brands go for on ebay?
Could be worth a look.
I have bought a few clubs on ebay and you are pretty safe if you buy from the right people. Look for club pro's selling online or people selling the odd second hand clubs in good condition and you cant go wrong.

Re: New set of clubs.
Seen a couple of second hand websites and think I'm just going to piece together a set from there to be honest. Will probably last me longer doing it that way.

Re: New set of clubs.
with a decent set of second hand irons 5years old +, you can probably sell them on without much loss if any.

Decided to piece together a set from a second hand website, picking up a Nike Sumo Driver and a Nike 3 wood for £100 on Friday.

Re: New set of clubs.
Never personally had any issues with buying via eBay but would approach with caution, only buy from sellers with good feedback and good tally of sales. Ask seller for original proof of purchase also. I know of a few people who recommend GolfBidder for buying only.
Some great offers to be had however, recently replaced my irons with Burner 2.0's (nearly new) for £230, whilst DirectGolf had a 2nd hand set for £300. Also picked up ex-demo RBZ Driver and 3 Wood for £200 from a pro shop in Inverness. On the flip side however I've been taken for a mug on eBay... selling a Ping G5 Driver (£30), Yonex Nanospeed (£30), Mizuno MX700 3 Wood (£50) and MD Golf Norman Drew 48* + 54* (combined £16.55!!!!!)
