Medical/clinical support in the HEC
Sam Warburton's famed dislocated finger at Sale brought this on.

X-rays are available on Google.
But my question are these:
a) Why, with an array of medics available on site, was Sam sent to hospital? Surely doctors were available to pull it back into place.
b) Rightly Sam had to spend two hours waiting his turn in the NHS triage queue. I'd have expected that Cardiff/WRU to have wanted to take out some medical insurance to protect a prize asset. Why didn't they?
And that's leaving aside any observations like 'in my day, he'd have had a team-mate pull it back and get on with the game'/'pampered pros' comments.

Re: Medical/clinical support in the HEC
On the 2 hour wait in A&E I know it certainly wouldn't happen here because there are very close links between the Team Medical staff and the A&E staff.
The reason the dislocation wasn't reduced on the touchline might be that they tried and just couldn't get it back in. It happens. Sometimes you need to use something to cause enough relaxation to over come resistance to reduce dislocations.

Re: Medical/clinical support in the HEC
Are you saying Mrs P that Ulster players get special fast-tracking in the NHS? I certainly hope not.
In any case were no doctors (presumably sports injury specialised) available on-site in Sale to provide and administer the appropriate injection or whatever relaxant that was required?
I am personally private medical insurance-averse, but I can see why Blues/WRU aren't and a trip to the local Nuffield would not have taken two hours in triage.

If it didn't click back in straight away they would have wanted to see an X-Ray to see why.

Re: Medical/clinical support in the HEC
Very difficult to be seen as an emergency privately still in the UK. I would have assumed that he and the blues medical team felt it wasn't worth making a fuss about, he probably had appropriate pain relief and was just waiting on the consultant to come and fix it!
I know here in Glasgow the medical team are closely linked with Spire but they still end up in the western a&e, waiting like everyone else!
