Travelling abroad for fights
Afternoon chaps
For those who have travelled abroad for fights - where did you get tickets from?
Also do you buy packages or flights/hotels/tickets separately?
Looking for reputable firms for maybe a outing to Vegas next year.
Thanks in advance! Any other tips/stories welcome!

Daz I went to Vegas for Hatton vs Mayweather, because demand for tickets was so high I booked a package through a company called Queensbury Travel, they advertise in the boxing mags pretty regularly. I couldn't fault them particularly as tickets for that one were hard to come by.
Also went over for the Haye Wlad fight that got cancelled, but booked that ourselves, going overseas to watch a fight is brilliant, you'll have a great time in Vegas Daz.

Thanks Jeff! I used Queensbury Travel for tickets to the initial Mayweather/Pacman fight before it got cancelled and they were decent enough. Their website has been down for quite some time so not sure what is going on there.

Re: Travelling abroad for fights
ditto alex, we nearly went to watch froch last year, it was 850 for hote 4-5 nightsl, board (was in a casino), tickets and flights. think that was in atlantic city, but dont think it would be too much more for vegas. considering you drink for free when gambiling i thought that was a really decent price. it all fell apart as non of my mates are that big on boxing to be honest, apart from one who doesnt have a passport.
let me know if you do book and how much as my goal next year (same as this year) is to get to vegas, hopefully khan/brook/hatton will happen there next year as a all english affair would be ace.

you see with the likes of Brook/Khan I'd prefer that to be in England, as generally the atmospheres in those type of massive fights are far better over here.

My dream too Alex - just waiting for a big fight to get made and then I'm on it!
Gutted Eddy - most of my mates dont have a clue about boxing either , but i would go on my own if I had to. Which company quoted you £850?

Ha, that's one of my main problems too! I actually don't know a single other person that follows boxing properly in real life at all, just people who occassionally tune in to some of the bigger ones.

Me too mate - some of them have moved over to UFC and others have lost interest all together.

If Froch does go back to Montreal to fight Bute, I highly recommend a trip. Good city to visit and will be a great atmosphere. I'll be getting the train there from where I live in Canada and would even consider meeting up for a pint with a 606er before hand.

It would be a great atmosphere - I heard Canada is a lovely place to visit. I just dont think that fight will be as competitive as some others out there next year to warrant the cash. Hoping for something like Mayweather/Martinez or Alvarez. Maybe even Pacman.

Re: Travelling abroad for fights
I went to Vegas for the ODH v Mayweather fight. I booked my tickets through Ticket Master, flights with Virgin and I booked us into the MGM direct. I decided to go with the MGM as that was where the fight was taking place.
You are better off staying where the fight's happening, if you can, as that's where the majority of the boxing world seems to end up being around and staying. I managed to get into the weigh in as I was staying there. Cost $15 but was well worth it.
The only scary part of the whole experience was the tickets. I'd been told to pick them up from one of the ticket offices on the day. Having paid 2k for me and the wife I was a bit worried that having gone all that way there could be some sort of man sausage up with them. Fortunately there were no problems whatsoever, although there was a fairly long queue as there were loads of people in front of me trying to buy tickets, but as it was sold out they were registering for last minute cancellations which took an age.
And whilst you're there stick $100 on red or black on a roulette wheel, but then quit, steer well clear of the slot machines, tables for the rest of your stay and go eat and drink. It's so easy to spank cash there and you more than likely lose it. Just do a one off bet and call it a day... or get drunk with the guy sitting next to you and bet $50 that ODH will beat Mayweather as I did.

Re: Travelling abroad for fights
Cheers Ratboy - hadnt really considered doing it all separately - was planning to get everything together in a package deal. I'll have a look around.
I plan to spend some time at the casino - partial to a bit of poker and some roulette occasionally. Nothing mental though.
Did the tickets for the fight sell out quickly on ticketmaster?

Re: Travelling abroad for fights
I went to Hamburg for the Haye Wlad fight and it was probably the best weekend away Ive ever had. We got the Eurostar to Paris and then the overnight train to Hamburg which was a bit different and great fun.
The atmosphere in Hamburg was amazing and despite the rubbish fight and result it was special to see a british fighter in a heavyweight unification fight abroad.
Going to a Vegas fight is a dream for me too. Luckily I have a good mate who loves his boxing so hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later. Just the $$$$$$$ thats the problem.

Whenever I leave London I feel I'm abroad due to the different accents.

Londoners are funny. I have a load of mates who think they'll pop if they go north of Watford Gap

They have a point. Does anything other than boozing and women who wear their thongs around their ankles every friday and saturday happen north of the Gap?
