2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
You thought the Europeans can do this!!!!
I think Rose winning the seventeenth .....made me think maybe it's not meant to me!!!
I mean that forty footer on seventeen was a 1/20 putt.....It was the first time I actually thought it possible to lose!!
Ps.......Reminder never to pick Kucher in a team format to the next few Captains...............What a letdown...

Truss, there are a lot of American's in that team who shouldn't get the chance again to play for you.

For me Rose winning putt on 18 was the moment, really expected big Phil to get the half.

As I posted about the impending "Miracle of Medinah" the previous evening, I can honestly say when I saw the singles match-ups.

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
Not sure there was one specific moment, Poulter clinching a win on the Sat night probably was the moment although unlike Kwini I still thought it was a step too far away at that point, even after the first 5 blue points on Sunday I was looking down the list wondering where we would get the rest. In that context Sergio's win was huge and considering his form just before and during the first 2 days so was Westwoods. But to be absolutely honest, for me, it was when Kaymers putt dropped.

Wasn't sure until Kaymers put dropped either. Although Rose's putt on 17 probably ignited the hope.

Probably the best moment of the whole event for me was Mickleson's acknowledgement of that putt dropping on 17 for Rosé. In the midst of such an intense battle a true moment of sporting class!!

The guy is a true sporting gent JAS. If only Nine Chins showed a bit of that character and humility I might not think he was such a knob end.

Some people think he did by conceding the putt on the last. Others just use it as another reason to slag him off.

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
Judging by the look on his nine chinned face, he conceded more out of disinterest than for sporting reasons. Could be wrong, but that's how it looked.

Well you are never going to give himn the benefit of the doubt really whatever he does you'll choose to look at negatively so really he cant do anything to please you.
If Mickleson had conceded that putt people would have been praising him to the rafters.

From what I heard there was also a bit of ire in the Yank press that he did it. Sour grapes or what!!
I agree though Super, true class and a sporting gent.

Mickelson would have done it with a smile on his face, not a scowl like Woods did, although perhaps the weight of his nine chins makes it difficult for him to smile?

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
You're a bit harsh there. Woods did state it was all over and US couldn't win, so why not show graciousness and concede. I wonder how Poulters face had looked had he been in the same position?

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
Of course he'd say that. He was hardly going to say that he's the worst American Ryder Cup player in history and he had no interest was he?
If he did it for the right reasons then good for him and I applaud him for it. Why does he have to be so joyless about everything though? He sucks the joy out of everything. I wish it was Mickelson who was the 14 time major winner. True class.

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
Meanwhile, back at the question...
I set out to watch the Sunday singles, resigned to an eventual American victory (despite Poulter et al's heroics on Saturday - I thought he might have burnt himself out and there would be a team slump). For me there was not so much a single event, but about 2 hours in or so, I felt there was a distinct shift in the much discussed "momentum". I also felt the crowd sensed this and the mood changed from expectation to concern. This fed back to the players and bouyed the Europeans while pressuring the Americans. At that point, I realised it was possible for Europe to win, but it was still a couple of hours before I thought they would.

Official DVD out later this month. Watching a dozen American's faces hit the floor will be worth every penny.

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
I find the official RC films OK for the most part - would ideally prefer a longer running time / including more of the action, but then again, I think they're about 2 hours each compared to half that for the official films for The Open. The "Ryder Cup Diaries" film included on a 2nd disc in the "special edition" set of the 2010 matches added something extra (albeit rather Euro-centric from memory), and it will be quite interesting to see the corresponding 2012 piece - especially if it covers both sides.

Re: 2012 ryder cup - When was the moment??
When I saw the draw for the singles I went straight for the bookies page to see the odds on Europe win. They were not even quoting.
So for me it must have been that moment. The draw made it seem possible.

Actually Furyk is a lot more engaging than you'd imagine. I remember on the 1st tee at CM 2 years ago (I think it was the singles but not sure) anyway there was the usual 1st tee raucus banter. The fact was the mist was rolling through and visibility off the tee was fluctuating between less than 100 yards and about 300 yards. Furyk was heard saying "where the hell are we going?" to which a sharp comment came from the crowd.... "Just follow your nose Jim" well!!! The crowd were in knots but to be fair to Furyk, so was he. I think he actually struggled to contain his sniggering to tee off. So...all I'm saying is...he can take humorous banter and roll with it...and fair play to him for that.

Fair enough JAS. That shows a side of him that I haven't been aware of. I've always thought of him as being too dour. But I must admit this is based purely on what I've seen of him on tv.
