Nathan Cleverly (someone pinch me, am I dreaming)
Ok,
I have read numerous interviews from him & others in his team over the last few days and it beggers belief how he gets away with these shoddy fights with a main world title on the line.
He is being paraded on the undercard over in the US later and he is talking about this guy Hawk being tough and perfect for him etc. Hawk having been beaten in a domestic type 10 or 8 round fight last time. But then I have to pinch myself and say, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A WORLD TITLE FIGHT!!!!
Cleverly is talking as if he is a prospect, fighting against a journeyman who has got the last hour call. Pathetic that the belt is on the line.
If Cleverly and Warren want to be realistic, then be realistic. But do not try to feed the American audience B.S. They know their stuff out their. Especially on an card of this nature (not really a casual sports fan's choice of fight). I think its an insult to fight fans' intelligence to try to dress up lamb and sell it as beef in this case. Tom Jones etc carrying the belt to the ring......please haha.
Anyway, he said he wants to follow in Calzaghe's footsteps....well hes going the right way about it with this kind of beginning to his title reign.
Embarrassing to think he has fans who would pay for this.
(Other British fighters 2nd & 3rd fights after a world title win, plus American showcases)
Amir Khan: (US Showcase fight = Paulie Malignaggi) / Marcos Maidana
Carl Froch: Andre Dirrell & Mikel Kessler (US Showcase fight = Jermain Taylor)
Ricky Hatton: US Showcase = Luiz Callazo / Juan Urango
Nathan Cleverly......................: Tommy Karpency / (US Showcase fight..........Shawn Hawk)........Brutal.

Yea, there is plenty of decent fighters fighting tonight, Wlad Klitsckho, Robert Helenius, Vanes Martirosyan, Erislandy Lara, Abner Mares against Anselmo Mareno.
Thats about it.

If that is the best response you've got my friend then I say "you shouldn't have bothered"

HBO's show starts at 2:45am, actual start of ring walks, unsure.

Re: Nathan Cleverly (someone pinch me, am I dreaming)
The Lara fight isn't on this bill I the best of my knowledge, it's in the other bill with featherweight mikey Garcia
This card has Alfredo Angulo comeback, Leo Santa Cruz, Nathan and Moreno-Mares so I doubt they will be showing Lara

Re: Nathan Cleverly (someone pinch me, am I dreaming)
Khan fought his fair share of bums early on. Talk about paying for crap fights remember his 20 fight PPV deal kicking off with Prescott.
Carl Froch didn't fight anyone with a pulse until he was well in his 30's.
Ricky Hatton's long "WBU" title reign was hardly stellar.
Yes Cleverley is fighting bums, and I don't consider him a world champ, but he is still very young for a light heavyweight. It would be suicide to chuck him in with the best before he's ready.
