Test cricket and the High Court Judge Empty Test cricket and the High Court Judge

Post by Corporalhumblebucket Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:03 pm

A senior High Court judge who has presided over dozens of high profile divorces, including that of Sir Paul Macartney and Heather Mills, described the figures for celebrity break-ups as "alarmingly high" and "tragic". (As reported in the Sunday Times), Coleridge argues that rather than the fairy tale image created by Hello!, marriage should instead be compared to a cricket test match.

"Most of the time not very much happens" he said. "The beauty of the match is tuat it is played out over a long time and at the end there have been ebbs and flows, happy times and sad, exciting times and more mundane times, all going to make up the whole memorable experience."

Is that a fair description of Test cricket. Or marriage for that matter?

Corporal - marriage and watching a Test match certainly have some of these similarities. They're also both bl**dy expensive! Rolling Eyes

Of course T20 can be compared to one night stands:

You spend a lot of money, a lot of huff and puff and rarely does anything memorable happen.

It definitely would be a mistake to take your spouse back if you found they had been sending saucy texts to a third party though.... censored

I could live with saucy texts - but woe betide her if she slagged of my performance between the sheets Very Happy

Guess that makes one-dayers like trying to spice up your boring sex life with your long-term girlfriend, finding it interesting for a week or two then carrying on endlessly with the same routine in the hope that it might, one day, live up to expectation.

Laugh Thanks one and all for those contributions which I will relay to Mrs Humblebucket who drew the article in the Sunday Times to my attention.

Not sure how far to go with the analogy. For instance, as England have been showing, it's much easier to get to No 1 than to stay there... Erm

Another similarity maybe, in test matches there are highly restrictive rules which occasionally allow you to claim your money back if there is insufficient action.... Shocked
