Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Cracking loyalty Mr. Abramovich. The Chelsea website says:
"The team's recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season."

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Was always going to happen, Abramovich only appointed him manager because of the Champions League win but was never convinced by Di Matteo. To be honest, neither was I, he's an alright manager, but always struck me as somebody who'd be better as the right hand man rather than the main manager.
No doubt Abramovich's first choice will be Guardiola, Benitez is probably the back up as he tried to get Benitez last year when AVB left but on a short-term deal.

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Why on earth would anyone want to manage Chelsea?!?
Roberto won the FA Cup and Champions League. He at least deserved a little more time to turn things round.

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Chelsea statement says that a replacement will be brought in in the ' short term ' . So that would suggest if Pep isn't interested in taking over until next season that it will be someone on a contract until the rest of the season .
Rafa favourite ? cant see him doing that short term he would want a long term contract , but then again Roman could give him that then just sack him .
For me the man for the job is Harry Redknapp until the end of the season

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Idiotic decision. What do you have to do to keep your job there? Abramovic always wanted the champions league, he was delivered it and still wasn't happy. How about stability at a club for once?
Third place in the league having been top until recently. Rubbish job eh?
That's two jobs he was doing well and has got the sack from.

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
I always said this day would come. DI Matteo's incredible luck has finally run out. He's been sacked because Roman's spent £80m and there going out the champions league and have disappointing EPL results against Swansea & WBA. The sign of a good manager is turning the players around when the luck and form runs out, RDM failed to do that over the last month. Of course, certain players failed him miserably like Torres and that's why Benitez is surely the man to get into Fernando's mind and rejuvinate him to former glories......can't see it happening though.

So luck won him the CL and FA Cup?
Where's his number, because with luck like that he can choose my lottery numbers!

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
His champions league run was incredbily lucky and everyone agreed on it, i'm not even contemplating starting an argument on that one. Everyone knows, after winning the champions league and F.A Cup it's a one direction fall. Same thing happening with Newcastle and Pardew this season but of course not on the same scale of success and not with Abramovich. Mourinho won champions league at Porto and got out, he won the champions league at Inter and got out. The inevitable was going to happen to RDM
Feel sorry for RDM but that's how football management works.

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Abramovich can't afford to take a £30+ million hit on Torres and therefore it will be cheaper (in the short term) to pay Benitez to try and get the best out of him. If Rafa can't do it, I think Roman has to bite the bullet and we see Torres return to Athletico (where he plays his socks off and make every Chelsea fan weep with frustration)

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Wonder what odds you would get on Di Matteo becoming the new QPR manager ?

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
not great odds. there a club in turmoil really, on the verge of going down with huge wages which will ultimately cripple them. RDM or any manager with half a brain would stay well clear

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Wouldn't it be ironic if Benetiz was to go there and immediately win Chelsea the league after failing miserably time after time with Liverpool. Not that I think he will mind.

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
I know everyone raves about Pep but I do wonder how he will do at his next club considering he had quite good circumstances at Barca having 3 of the best 4 players on the planet and all

3 of which mysteriously became 3 of the best 4 players in the world under his management. Guardiola doesn't get enough credit for that job tbf, he made that team nigh unbeatable for 4 years.

I guess what I am saying is that I don't believe that Guardiola would be able to repeat that level of success with say a Chelsea/Arsenal

It will take time, but Chelsea have brought in the flair players for him i suspect.
Benitez in as a stopgap with Pl experience and will hopefully get Torres firing

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
Benitez did well to begin with but by the end he had lost it. Too much ranting and raving and bad signings.
Once he moved on he managed to turn a very good Inter side average. I think his time has been and gone.

Benitez has won 2 CL one with Liverpool and one with Valencia, also won the league with Valencia. Sure he failed at Inter but he is a darn good manager and I think he'll do a good job for this season at Chelsea

He clearly didn't like Di Matteo or believe in him. Took him a long time to give him the job and has taken it away from him at the first opportunity. Lets face it Chelsea are Abramovich's toy, and he can do whatever he wants there. They wouldn't be where they are today without his money tho

Re: Di Matteo Leaves Chelsea
He won the UEFA Cup with Valencia I think, and got them to a CL final.
If Benitez is smart, he'll use this to improve his reputation and move on to a club that doesn't have such a itchy trigger finger. Let's say he wins the League, he's massively improved his reputation, but no doubt Abramovich will go after Pep anyway, if I was Benitez, if Pep says no again, I'd still walk away from Chelsea. He would be able to get another job (Tottenham or possibly even Liverpool (who he's clearly still in love with)) after improving his reputation again without suffering the embarrassment of Abramovich sacking him.
Even Mourinho, with all his success, and probably the best manager in the world right now, failed to please Abramovich, nobody will succeed long-term there.
