Episode 3 24/7 --- Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez - Ratings, Build Up (poll)--- videos - etc...
This is simply my opinion, if you feel differently please post the differences you would make, Also this is including the wear and tear on the fighters, meaning this is their current abilities as a fighter and not Prime Ratings.
My ratings
Technical Ability - 9-8.5, JMM has the Advantage here He is the most best combination puncher in the game today, one of the greatest, if not the greatest combination punchers of all time, he has a good well timed jab and he has excellent accuracy in his power punches, excellent Counter puncher, the best today, counter punches whilst exchanging punches, which is very rare for a fighter. Pac on the other hand has developed on his technique throughout the years, maybe not a fighter that you look at and think he's a excellent technical fighter, but in his unorthodox way he has excellent technique in power punches and a underrated right hook counter.
Defence - 8.5-8, JMM Closer than what people might think. able to mantain his defencive ability under heavy pressure against the ropes, excellent head movement and great ability to judge distance but does get hit, probably due to the fact he fights more aggressively after his slight alter in style - which is out of character to his natural counter punching style. Pacquiao on the other hand has a very good defence but often underrated due to the fact it doesn't live up to his other great abilities as a fighter, he often seems to get bored in a fight, but when he decides to box is hard to hit e.g. Bradley fight
Offence - 9 - 8.5, Advantage Pacquiao, Manny's a fighter who relies on a solid offence to win fights. He's strength and angles makes him a fighter that is difficult to stop in his tracks when he is in a mean mentality,, he has a decent jab and is relentless and backs up his powerful head punches with body punches, couple of years ago this would have been a certain 10, recently his footwork has slowed and his punch power has gone down. JMM is a great offensive fighter, he relies on combination punching to punish his opponents, but it takes him a while in a fight to take over with his offence alone and has tendency to get caught when trading.
Footwork - 8- 8, Equal, Many may argue either way, JMM had the superior footwork in their 3rd meeting, but that to me was part due to gameplan and mentality going into the fight, Pacqiuao had ATG footwork around 09, but has declined massively and it shows in his fights, compare him to the Hatton fight where he had superior footwork to a guy with excellent footwork same in ODLH fight where he used in and out tactics, now Bradley came foward and didn't run like mosley, he still couldn't fight the way he used to. JMM has good general movement, he finds good angles to counter his oppenents and he is a good ring general, he is excellent at judging distance as a fighter
Accuracy - 8.5, 8.5 Equal, Again this may be an area, where it seems JMM has superior accuracy, but the level of competition has to be taken into consideration, Pacquiao has faced a superior level of competition and has managed to do alot of damage, sure JMM has more accurate combinations, but pacquiao makes up for it in pure power punches, Pacquiao's accuracy seemed to go down with reducing footspeed, JMM has slowed down aswell (not as much as pacquiao), this has affected his accuracy, about 3 years ago I think both fighters would have received a better rating.
Power - 8.5-6.5, Pacquiao although not a massive puncher anymore as he was, mainly due to Pac not being able to generate as much power from legs - loss of momentum has a clear advantage here, his power isn't as devastating as it once was but is enough to hurt a world class oppenent and has the ability to put them away if hurt with accurate power punches, he has taken out much bigger men, but his rating is not P4P rating but a rating comparing him with other 147 fighters, maybe 140 because they are very small for the weight, He has lost snap in his punches recently. JMM had excellent power at 126-130, but since moving up to 140/147 his power hasn't been tested, but even lightweight he had the sort of power that would wear down opponents with accurate punches
Speed - 8.5- 7, Pacquiao has excellent speed. He can throw short punches from unconventional angles and right hooks surprises opponents, he can also mix it up with hooks to the body on the inside, his speed has declined both feet and hand, main factor to his decline. JMM although not a speed fighter, he isn't slow either, he has quick jabs and can throw quick hooks and uppercuts excellent speed in combinations, considering the quality. Both fighters have declined in this category in recent years - Pacquiao mainly due to one tough fight after another, JMM due to Age mainly.
Versatility - 8- 7, Pacquiao, He is able to trade and brawl when required he is able to Box in and out and break opponents down, he is also able to fight off the back foot as he did vs ODLH in recent years, whether if he can do it now, is a different question. JMM He can do few things things and he can do those two things very well, He is able to both Box on the backfoot and counter punch by having great control over distance and movement, he is able to apply pressure and finish of a opponent and can trade well, he can come foward throwing combinations . Pac can fight in mid range and recently with developed boxing skills on the Outside and also can throw powerfull body punches on the inside, where as JMM is able to fight on the outside and inside, he is not on Pacquiao's level in mid range, not that he can't fight there, just that is where he gets caught alot, he leaves himself open on the middle, he needs to stay away from mid range, for him to win with pacquiao in their 4th fight
Stamina - 8- 8, Equal - Both fighters have good stamina, but Pacquiao's has declined massively, although JMM is less tired at the end of the fight, one has to remember the work rate Pacquiao fights with and in all 3 fights pacquiao seemed to come back towards the end of the fight.
Heart - 9-10 Both have great hearts, But JMM has to take it for me, although neither look like they will ever quit, JMM got up of the floor many times, always looked determined to do so aswel. thing with pacquiao is that you have to question does he still want boxing, he has alot to do in his life with politics, JMM seems to want this win more than Pacquiao, he often gets frustrated in fights, but recently showed heart when he was clearly exhausted in the corner vs bradley.
Chin - 9- 7, Pacquiao has a Great chin down few times and KO'd but all in the lower weights. he has been hit clean many times, not down to lack of defence more to do with aggression and fighting style, took monster punches from cotto, Margarito in the higher weights. JMM has gone down many times but has great powers of recovery, he seems to be able to take solid shots if he sees them coming, but he is still vulnerable when trading.
Physical Attributes - 8- 7, Pacquiao, not only are these great fighters matched with skill they are also matched in physical attributes, Manny's attributes have left him, he was a freak of nature with his athletic ability, but now he is only slightly more athletic than JMM, it is close but mainly due to pacquiao's decline. JMM is very solid, nothing spectacular, but nothing bad, very well match here aswell
Some attributes are missing though such as Cut/Swelling resistance, ring IQ and Corner ect.
Overall - Pacquiao: 8.5 vs Marquez : 8
Both Fighters have declined, But in JMM case, he has only declined by little and is able to adjust due to the fact he is a boxer, boxers tend to be more able to adjust better, Pacquiao has improved on some things some things technically over the past 4 years but he has declined quite a bit from the explosiveness of his prime.
Prediction : Fight will be close, no knockdowns. JMM would box and take the early round but Pacquiao for a change will take middle rounds with aggression, JMM will take his rounds on clear punches and combinations, pacquiao in messy aggression and work rate, even going into the last 4 rounds, both fighters try to put in their authority, but it's pacquiao with his superior power who manges to back up JMM, Pacquiao takes a close decision 115-113, Fans clame a robbery due to being a close fight

Re: Episode 3 24/7 --- Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez - Ratings, Build Up (poll)--- videos - etc...
According to Bob Arum, less than 1000 tickets remain for the December 8 showdown between 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and 4-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez. "The reception that the public has afforded this fight has been truly tremendous. We have less than 1000 tickets remain to be sold for the event," Arum revealed during a conference call to promote the bout.
Despite the fact that this is the fourth encounter between the two fighters, Arum is confident that the bout will be a success at the box office. "The gate receipt already exceeds $10 million and are approaching $11 million. Reports we're getting from the closed circuit exhibitors and from the foreign broadcasters are very enthusiastic, so we are anticipating a tremendous event on December 8th," Arum explained. "A fight that will go into the anals of boxing history because these gentleman have fought 3 previous times and there's no doubt in my mind that this 4th fight will be the best fight of all."
I doubt this has done over 10 million

Not really sure what to make of this to be honest. Marquez won comfortably last time and I don't think either have changed massively since they last fought. JMM on points for me 8-4 or something similar. I really hope this time he actually gets the nod, he should be 3-0 up in the series.

First 3 fights were close, first two were 50/50, I had pacquiao by a point both times, in the third I had JMM up by 6-4, but gave away the last 2 in my opinion, but could be 115-113 for JMM, some close rounds. I have it 2-0-1 for Pacquiao, 113-112, 114-113, 114-114.

You honestly had the first one close? Marquez won 9 clear rounds. Though it was awful judging. Likewise the 2nd and 3rd Marquez picked up at least 7 rounds in each of them. Clear winner.

All 3 were close fights, it was awful judging, one judge gave round one 10-7 instead of 10-6 - meaning a pacquiao win turned into a draw. 2nd fight was even, marquez's combination vs Paquiao's power and workrate. Marquez dominated the third fight in the rounds he won, Pacquiao scraped the rounds he won, making it seem like it was more of a domination than it was, I can see a 115-113 for JMM in the 3rd, but out of the many times i've watched the first 2 I gave it Pacquiao by a point both times.
Pacquiao had much higher workrate in all 3 fights and in the close rounds he nicked alot of them, Marquez looked more impressive winning his rounds in the 36 than pacquiao winning his (apart from the one's containing the KD).
3rd fight had close rounds in the first 5, and I felt pacquiao won the last two rounds, I had JMM Clearly winning 6, Pacquiao Clearly winning 4, winning 1 and 1 round was 50/50. HBO polled a group of boxing writers and experts; 46% saw Marquez winning, 42% saw it a draw, 12% saw Pacquiao winning.

The third fight was about as clear a win as you could get, Marquez dominated and won at least 9 rounds on my card as he did in the first, the only fight that was open to interpretation was the second which I still had him winning by a couple.

9??, I can't understand anyone who has given marquez more than 8 in the last fight, I had Pacquiao winning atleast 4.
Alot of the rounds JMM would throw a great combination and switch off for the round and pacquiao would slowly take that round away from JMM

I can't really understand anyone who has the third remotely close but with it being the money spinner being the beneficiary of a disgraceful decision it's to be expected.

alot of boxing experts had that fight a draw or close - 115-113 JMM.
Believe or not Truss am a JMM fan, not really a pac fan, but I saw the fight the way I and many others saw it.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics. I could point out how the ring magazine did a poll and 43% had it as the robbery of the year.

many expected JMM to get destroyed in the 3rd, so every close round was a JMM round. I thought Manny would win but thought he would win in a close fight, he didn't win but JMM didn't dominate the fight

No Marquez dominated, every close round was given to Pacquiao even those that weren't close were given to him.

Agree with ghosty........
The house fighter...............got the decision...
Had Marquez been American like Timmy maybe it would've been different..
For me the 2nd fight was the closest..

am going of memory here, but are you saying rounds like 9,10,11, were not close, Most of JMM big punches were blocked or parried.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:We can agree to disagree on your last statement..

In my opinion Marquez dominated the 3rd fight, there was a reason they couldn't find a single clip of Pacquiao connecting with anything half decent...
I had it 117-111 or something like that I believe, Pacquiao may have landed, but he didn't land clean.
The first fight I gave Pacquiao 3 rounds, 1,2 and 10, Marquez clearly won the rest. What rounds did you give Pacquiao in the 1st fight Truss?

Second was indeed the closest but if anyone other than Manny is in the other corner Marquez wins 7-5 at the absolute worst.

Im not interested in this fight. I certainly wont be forking out 15 quid on it. Pacquiao has already fought him 3 times before. Pacquiao should be proving himself against Mayweather, not someone he has already fought 3 times and beat in the past. Mayweather against Pacauiao is the fight people want to see. Not another rematch.

Surprised you don't want to see Lewis coming out of retirement to face Pac if I'm being honest. Usually find a way to wangle your favourite big black toy in to a thread.

There is no point in Lewis coming back now. He said himself his motivation began to leave him after he demolished Tyson. He acheivd al his goals and is happy to be retired. He could come back now and become champion again which would give him the record for oldest champion but he said his goal was to be the best not the oldest. He is honest enough to admit Ali is the best of all time though so who would argue with that??

Can't wait for this, as many know Marquez is my favourite fighter and I am very much looking forward to seeing him get the victory he deserves!
No way they can rob him AGAIN, mind you I am a lot more nervous this time round than I was for the 3rd fight.

Im going for a early/mid stoppage for Pacquiao, think the weight is the issue here. Pacquiao is at the upper limit 147, Marquez is 143. Last time the catchweight of 144 favoured Marquez, this time the extra 3 lbs will make a big difference imo.
