Star Trek Into Darkness
The marketing machine is now at warp 1, captain.

Not sure if the teaser poster, showing a devastated London skyline, is a local one for UK or whether it will feature in the film. No proper confirmation yet that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan, but that seems to be what many punters are expecting.

Over the past week I have watched a few film trailers on my phone while on the go. This was one of them. Yes it looks good and I will go watch it. Will it surpass the first one? Not a chance. That one was perfect.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I'm very much looking forward to into darkness. I do have a few questions about it though:
1. Will it tie into the first film and will we see/hear of the new Vulcan colony?
2. If Cumberbatch is Khan then will they follow the same storyline as the original film?
3. If a major character dies in the film will they manage to create the emotional depth and investment needed for the scene/story to work having only just rebooted the franchise?

We don't see much of Spock in the trailer, and I believe Zachary Quinto did not want to be inolved in any Star Trek follow-ups. I'm not sure why though because his character in the first film was brilliant. (So was Urban's character McCoy for that matter, and Pine's captain Kirk also). If we aren't seeing much of Spock than could we assume he was away with the Vulcan colony at some point in the movie?
You might need to refresh my memory, I haven't seen the originals in a long time. Did Kahn posess the Genesis device in the original film? Also note that I am not a big fan of the old movies, I also believe the series to be a lot better than the movie spin-offs.
Finally, excellent point. Spock and Kirk do not seem to have that relationship yet. With the 80's films coming off the back of an on-going series I guess it was easy to portray that relationship. McCoy and Kirk are close however, having become good friends through years at the Fleet academy.
Cumberbatch's character looks quite interesting. I'm not so sure he could be more ruthless than Nero though. And what weapon could be more dangerous than red matter?

That's why fitting Nimoy into Abrahams' Star Trek was an ingenious idea. I'll give this one a chance though.

No - it was developed on the planet and then taken by Khan near the end of the film and they leave Kirk and Co stranded in the centre of the planet.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
As time goes on, I'm increasingly convinced that Cumberbatch is not playing Khan.
Another name from the original series has been bandied around, and I suspect this one is correct - especially as Karl Urban reportedly blurted the name out in a recent interview... In the meantime, the studio has released a publicity still naming the character as "John Harrison". I think this is JJ Abrams and co having a joke - I understand this is a generic name for a random crew member, but that might be even more internet rumours on top of internet rumours.
Having said all that, Alice Eve [lady with blonde hair, wearing blue uniform] has been semi-confirmed as Dr Carol Marcus and intriguingly, it's also reported that the Japanese trailer has more footage including what looks like Spock and Kirk trying to touch hands but separated by glass. Both points likely to be at least references to Star Trek II if not more than that.

The Japanese trailer does indeed include the connecting hands clip, which heavily teases at a wrath of Khan like story. I really hope this is a red herring.

Film looks great, can't believe it's taken so long for a sequel!
It's Cumberbach!

Can you get that trailer elsewhere pal? It's been taken down due to a copyright law breach.

Can't wait for this. Loved the first one and adding Cumberbatch in is just nailed on to improve it.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I love Star Trek, but hate Benedict Cumberbatch (a dreadful actor, a by-product of a bit of media hype and 'it's cool to like the weird looking but very wooden actor').
Not sure I'm going to be able to enjoy the film as a consequence, but will still give it a go. Chris Pine was a fantastic Kirk.

Er, yes it is. It might not be the Star Trek YOU want it to be, but it IS Star Trek. It's like saying that the Queen isn't really the Queen, just because she has the same title as William the Conqueror's wife.

Each to their own Azzy, but I really enjoy BC. Everything I've seen him in I've enjoyed him, and I absolutely love Sherlock which might make my view a bit biased but hey. Just gives off a presence which other actors don't.
Agree on Pine though, he was a brilliant Kirk in the first one. If this is as good as the first one, we'll be in for a treat.

Gotta say that it looks amazing.
I cant remember the last time that there were so many films that I am actually looking forward to. This along with World War Z being the main two.

Final trailer now out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5ec_rPApKCA
Not sure if this is official nor therefore how long it might remain up.
The official site is here, but it runs on Apple iTunes which somewhat disagrees with my PC:

Anybody seen it yet?
Went last night and to quote the king of the geeks - Sheldon Cooper - Set phasers for fun
For the first time in my life I have found myself questioning my allegiance to the Star Wars franchise in the battle that has plagued nerds for decades
Take a bow JJ Abrams

Yes - liked it a lot, but after wondering if this could be the BEST MOVIE EVER for maybe half of the running time, I think the ending could have been "better".
- Spoiler:
By which I mean I didn't think they needed to do so many homages.
KH-AAAAAAA-AAAAAAN...!
The Tribble almost made me laugh out loud though.

I think Im going to contact British police to just monitor the movie section of 606 and see if any particularly sick acts of violence/idiocy take place in close proximity to articles where similar ideas are mentioned...

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I saw it earlier this evening in 3D. I don't want to give too much away but it does pay homage to the original series and films in quite a few ways. Action-packed and with both moments of humour and drama. I thoroughly enjoyed it and that comes from a big fan of the originals who felt this reworking of the original cast would never work.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
What did you think Stella?
It was much better than I expected it to be. I enjoyed the first remake (after expecting terrible things) and thought the sequel would carry on at a similar pace. This ramped it up and the only part I didn't really enjoy was where they were flying through space at the enemy ship, thought it went on too long.
As a sidenote, I had to watch it with a guy next to me (not a friend!) who enjoyed Star Trek a bit too much, he read out all of the writing and
It added something to the film, but I might try and watch it again without the commentary!

- Spoiler:
- clapped when Scotty appeared on the enemy ship. Also, when Kirk was dying he kept saying 'it should have been Spock' and then eventually reconciled it with himself and said 'it's ok it's a parallell universe'!

I really liked it. Possibly better than the first one, and as mentioned, Pine is a great Kirk.

Not being a big fan of Star Trek, thought it was good, better than the first one.
Pine does play Kirk well, as does the guy who plays Spock.
Cumberbatch was good in it to.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
Saw it tonight, bit disappointing all in all- not a patch on the first one IMO.
Bizarre for a film that was over 2 hours long but I don't feel they got the story told adequately.
I've not seen the original this film draws from but I thought the references weren't needed- let this cast run with it now.
