Great pressure by the Blues, patchell and Tovey are doing well in the backs. Pressure equals penaltys.

Blues were playing well
Lloyd Williams is an absolute idiot - drives a players head into the ground, CLEAR RED CARD.
I hope he never plays for the Blues again, let alone Wales.
Lloyd Williams costs the Blues another game, short of a 60 minute miracle.

btw is Johnnie Beattie playing for Montpellier today? If he is could someone let us scots know how he's playing? He's kind of slipped off the radar playing in France and all, although I hear he recently earned a couple of MOTM awards so he cant be too bad...

I think that's a bt harsh. The lad needs to learn from this.

Re: Blues vs Montpellier Post Match
What is it with the Blues in HC matches? We seem to lose it when we're actually playing okay, as Xavier did against the Saints.
Ergh.
On a lighter note good game so far from Patchell, hopefully see him in the Welsh set up in February.

Ridiculously harsh 606... Lloyd Williams is not the reason the blues arent having a good season. He has been struggling by a beaten pack. That tackle wasnt intentional, it was an interpreted call on the laws by the ref.

Re: Blues vs Montpellier Post Match
Chances of injury from that...?. Chances of injury from getting taken out in air?..usual sanction, pen or yellow. Chances on injury from collapsed scrum.....? usual sanction-nothing.
Granted I would like to see incident again, cos my picture isnt exactly HD but didnt look too bad.

Re: Blues vs Montpellier Post Match
Kingjohn,
If tackles like Williams' or Warburtons in the Semi of the RWC are to be awarded a sending off then so should taking out in the air and when jumping in the line out, as well as collapse scrums, shoulder barging at rucks.
All listed are more serious than what is currently seen as a very dangerous tackle

He has been awful for over a year, even Lewis Jones is better, and that's saying something.

Warburtons was questionable, but Lloyd Williams tackles was a clear red card - I knew it was going to be red as soon as it happened. I expect a 4-6 week ban, so at least the coaches will stop selecting brynmors little boy for a month or so.

Dont think i made myself clear, I think we singing from same hymn sheet. I dont see how tackles like that are seen as SO dangerous and are now instant reds, yet the other incidents in my view are worse but are either yellows or nothing at all.

On the plus side. I would be surprised not to see Patchell in the 6N squad if he continues how he has played at 10 this season (bar the second half last week)

Would be nice to get a look at him with a pack on front foot. Looks a solid kicker though.

Re: Blues vs Montpellier Post Match
Why is it biased? Is it not a legit topic for discussion, and it all comes down to personnel judgement. Just saw replay, he wraps his arms around the top half of his body, not low down so that he can be 'speared'. What are chances of getting a pro rugby player on their head(which he didnt) from that tackle? These guys dont weigh 50kgs. I agree that it did turn out dangerous(extremely unlucky) so a yellow imo.

Law 10.4(j) reads: Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.
- The player is lifted and then forced or ‘speared’ into the ground (red card offence)
Clear cut red card. Elbows above shoulder & carried on down with movement. Upper body in contact with ground.
Ref is doing well.....

I don't know why they took Tovey off when he was playing well and covering well at FB, I would have taken Robinson off and had Tovey cover the wing more in defence.

Agreed. Patchell has played exceptionally well every time I've watched him play for the blues. How old is this lad?

I think John is right on saying it usually comes down to personal judgement/interpretation of the official.

Re: Blues vs Montpellier Post Match
Im not having a go at the ref or arguing what is in the law book(although every law is open to interpretation). Im saying in my view the laws are wrong.
Im sure on this topic people wont agree, but i do respect the idea of player safety being paramount so I guess I will just have to accept it.
Anyway getting whisked away by the missus, enjoy the game lads, its been good so far.

That's the second time I have seen Patchell catch a winger and bring him down, he has amazing pace for a no10 and he saves himself after throwing an intercept.

He ran back to tackle the winger who had a clear run in, then moments later tackled the man the winger passed to.
