What's with all the substitutions? Why would you take Nico off in that game? As for Jackson, you just knew he wasn't going to make that kick, awful.

They blew it big style. Very disappointing, should have won that, deserved to even. How did he miss that penalty? Then coughing up posession in the closing minute. Crazy. They'll be really hurting after that.

It's like he is pathologically unable to give the ball to another player.George Carlin wrote:Nice to have Morrison back to slow that midfield right down.

Referee was definitely partisan but whilst I didn't see the first half what clearly cost us was the two sin binnings - both pretty silly, to be honest.
Glasgow was the better team, but not the smarter one.

Second one was a joke, nowhere near a yellow.
I would rather have had Hall taking that kick at the end, at least there might have been a chance of it going over.

Grim to think that in the past few weeks, if Glasgow had a decent & reliable goal kicker they might well have done the double on Castres & sneaked past Leinster.
Re: Heineken, Pool 4, Round 4: Castres Olympique v Glasgow Warriors
GLove we do his names Weir if given a chance e.g. he scored a good last kick of the match for Dundee yesterday to win the match.

Wonder if Toonie has put two and two together to realise that it's quite a good idea to start any teamsheet with a regular kicker and playmaker?
Oh, what the hey, probably not.
Maitland must be wondering what the feic he's walked into.

Same problem at Embra guys. Played on Friday without a kicker and left 18 points on the tee. Hopefully both sides will pick playmakers and kickers for the 1872, looking forward to those games.

Problem is, neither team has a player who is both kicking his goals and on form in loose play. Wight and Hunter are probably the closest, and leonard has shown flashes of being able to do both in the limited time hes been allowed on the pitch.

Some Stats on Glasgow 10's
2011-12
Jackson Started 8 sub on 6 points 79 5.6 av
Wight " 1 " 9 " 24 2.4
Weir " 20 " 3 " 256 11.1
2012-13
Jackson 7 3 24 2.4
Wight 3 4 30 4.3
Weir 3 2 18 3.4
Weir was out for 9 weeks this season and to be honest I think that has something to do with our consistency this year, as the above does demonstrate, we miss his accuracy and to be fair the team last year were performing more consistently but again this year with new manager and plays have an effect on points scored.

Missed the game, hopefully someone will put it on youtube.
As i understand it, Glasgow got robbed as there should have been a red card for stamping on the head and yellow cards were given after advice from the crowd.
This doesn't surprise me really, refereing has benn really poor in this year HEC.

Maitland was pretty good. I wouldn't go so far as to say "Oh my God, he's our missing link - we're going to beat all and sundry from now on", but there is definitely something useful there. Ran some good lines, and he has a pretty good sidestep.
Also, he wasn't exposed in defence at all, and responded well when we made turnovers - one particular example springs to mind where Schlong (I think) won the ball in the tackle, it skittered out to Maitland who put through a lovely inch-perfect kick through and then led a brilliant chase that forced Castres to concede a lineout inside their 22. We went on to lose our own lineout, but... hey ho.

Re: Heineken, Pool 4, Round 4: Castres Olympique v Glasgow Warriors
I agree, I thought Maitland looks more of a thinking and natural rugby player than we are generally used to in Scotland (Ansbro also looks to have this ability in my opinion). Seymour looked pretty lively also.
I thought Wilson had a strong game at no8, looks to have more power than McInally from what I've seen.
I still can't understand the crazy substitutions in today's game ,why take Nico off when he was playing so well?

Penalty leading to the rolling maul was a joke and it was unsportmanlike. Both yellow cards were very soft (first one the same foul happened from a castres player against Swinson, not a penalty).
That said, the decision not to replace Reid (who was cramping by the 65') by Grant probably cost Glasgow the match in the end.

Baffling why the change was not made. Unless he had been instructed by the powers to be to only use Grant as a last resort, that can be the only excuse.

Who knows! He played the full game for Dundee at the weekend in the British & Irish cup. To rub salt into the wounds he successfully kicking the winning points in the last minute to win the game for his team, bet Dundee are glad they had him and not Jackson.

Would it be fair to say if Weir was playing instead of Jackson Glasgow would have won that game?
Where was the kick that hit the posts at the end taken from? And why didn't Horne take it? Was he subbed off for Morrison??

I'm not going to be popular here, but I thought Morrison made a decent impact carrying the ball, and gave Glasgow some useful go forward.
I watched it on TV and I must say I was left frustrated, but equally proud of the Glasgow effort. Tricky fixture, and they came as close as you can to sneaking an impressive win in France.
Matawalu was sensational, as was Swinson and Wilson in the pack. Also as well as I've seen Barclay play for a while, real shame his hamstring went (although massive credit for still getting over the line).
This may not be saying much, but that was comfortably the best Scottish performance in the HC this season, and on the basis of the weekend, Glasgow will win the 1872 handsomely. Their resistence against that huge Castres pack was something Edinburgh can't seem to muster. Even the likes of Low and Reid, troubled in the scrum, managed to bring some power to bear in the loose.
Proud of the effort, and a cracking spectacle.

Yes, he was subbed off. The kick was slightly to the right of the post, and 5/10 metres outside the 22 from memory. Jackson took it and had the distance, but it strike the right hand post. Very close, and a massive pressure kick. I've seen Horne kick pretty poorly at times this season. No guarantees he'd have got that.
As above, I also thought Morrison was pretty good when he came on. Think I may be in a minority of one though.....

I was actually shocked when I saw Morrison beat 2 men, I didn't se their numbers at the time but I presume they were props. Kidding aside he did take the ball into contact and made some good yards. Once again though he missed a few golden chances to shift the ball wide for a 2 on 1 which would have relieved the pressure and put us up the field.
Matawalu was outstanding. I don't know how Toonie can play Pyrgos this week after that performance. I was really impressed by Wilson as well, he put in some big hits and ran a beautiful line to set up Barclay for the try, who did very well to score after pulling his hamstring.
I'm starting to feel sorry for Jackson. When the coach has no confidence in you how can you have confidence in yourself. It's inevitable that he'll have to take some kicks. He should be given both remaining HC games and kicking duties for them.

Then again, Gandhi never played at 12.
