It was disappointing at the end of the year but that was a very successful tour down south at the start of the year. AR bowed out with dignity after the losses in the autumn but maybe now a coach will be picked who is more assured with his selections. You have a good core of young players like Visser, Gray, Denton who will only get better with age and a solid set piece to allow you to focus on sharpening your backline.

So there is obvious disappointment there but Tonga aside, I think Welsh fans have more grounds for being downcast. Chin up laddy and hit the drams and smooth up your battle cry. Pray for a sensible coaching appointment and glory awaits.

Thanks for your optimism - I've always said we've got some very good individuals, the problem is they aren't playing as a team. Here's hoping the new coach gets them doing that!

Richie Gray - A beacon of light in another dire season.

Between Denton and Grant for me. It's always going to go to a front row forward from me. Denton had a scintilating 6N but Grant came into the Scotland team and steadied our Scrum against some big opposition in November and never once looked to be struggling or out of his depth. What a releif to have unearthed a good young loosehead.

Scotland worst player of the year
Dan Parks, he only played one game, but that was enough.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh Player of the year
Visser - no contest really. Sean Cox would be in 2nd place.

Edinburgh new signing of the year
Tonks - Came in and I can't really remember him having a bad game yet.

Gilchrist, the lad has cemented himself as a very capable professional lock.

DTH has again been brilliant. Amazing pace, fantastic finisher and such strength in that puney body.

Strauss - The big back rower has come in and played well from the get go. Maitland is a big name but is yet to really have a chance.

Dunbar - Considering he has been touted for a Scotland cap he has done something right.

It's a tough category this because so many contribute well to this forum and I think we have pound for pound the best posters on here in terms of balance, knowlege and tact.

Asbo is always insightful and gracious, RDW is a great poster with access to Edinburgh gossip and behind the scenes sources Via twitter.... (i'm watchin' you RDW ), George Carlin also posseses amazing knowlege and has IMO posted some of the best Articles on here, Risky too is a very knowlegable poster who contributes well.

However, my nomination would go to FES, not only are his posts articulate, but they are also accurate and he makes his point very vey well. Anyone would think he has a career in persuasion! He also nominated me for trying to organise events! I feel compelled to nominate him since he seems to be the only one to turn up!

not posted on here, but when Andy Robinson posted the Scotland team to play England in the 1st game in the 2012 6N has to go down as one of the worst "posts" in history.

The last time someone got something THAT wrong, the year was 1939 and he came of a Plane from Munich, waveing a piece of paper declairing "peace in our time".

GC: Greig Laidlaw - in a year of slim pickings, the little big man knocked over the pressure kick against the Wallabies and has shown the heart of a lion in the body of a malnourished lion cub.

GC: Rob Harley for his winner against Samoa, Ryan Grant for filling the enormous void that existed in the loosehead position, Tim Visser for continuing his club form in the national shirt.

Scotland worst player of the year

GC: Step forward, Maxwell Evans. So much expected, so little delivered. Spend less time looking at yourself in the mirror and get back to work.

GC: The Tim Visser Award this year goes to a young man called Timothy Visser.

GC: Greig Tonks. Old fashioned footballing skills, a fieldgun boot and (feic me hard) that old intangible quality of common sense. Give that man a cap now. Izak van der Westhuizen is an extremely honourable mention.

GC: Tom Brown - still has the talent to be an international player - am a big fan. And my haircut's older than he is.

GC: Josh Strauss. Has led from the front, justified his huge reputation and my missus doesn't fancy him at all. What's not to like?

GC: Sean Maitland. Always easy to showboat in a team that's dominant (like the Crusaders) but Maitland has shown real class, good judgement and a great step. Scotland expects. And we should.

GC: Niko Matawalu - still a youngster as far as I'm concerned, he's certainly full of the youthful joys. A livewire, a gamechanger and the most exciting player on the park. Money's worth and then some.

Glasgow worst player of the year

GC: Tough one, but for sheer negative return I'm going to go for Byron McGuigan. "Barry" needs to learn that if you're hardly ever on the pitch, it doesn't do you a great deal of good to get yellow carded at crucial points in majot HC games. You little Holly Wilaboobie.

GC: Still beating the Wallabies. The feeling never, ever gets boring. Like getting a sponge bath from Keira Knightly and Deepika Padukone at the same time. Marvellous.

Richie Gray - Impressive throughout the year, and it’s noticeable how much Scotland are affected when he’s not on the pitch. It doesn’t look, as yet, like his club form is affecting his form for Scotland, as he was excellent against the All Blacks. I pray to the Almighty that he has a relegation clause in his contract.

Matt Scott - in one go, he has solved Scotland’s biggest problem position. I’m going to be brave and say that he should go to France if he really wants to kick on.

Ed Kalman. Seriously, this guy got capped for Scotland. Ed. F***ing. Kalman.

Edinburgh Player of the year
Greig Laidlaw - people go on about Visser, but it was Laidlaw that got Edinburgh to the HC semi final. At his best, he is world class, but he needs to get back to that standard.

Greig Tonks - quick, with good hands and a big boot. I’ll admit, I’m very surprised at how well he has done.
Edinburgh Young player of the year
Dave Denton - ‘The other Scottish guy with the hair’ as I heard an Englishman say in the pub, Denton is carving himself quite a reputation. Some of his best work has been done in drawing in defenders and then distributing outwards (see Visser’s try against Treviso), and he needs to do this more often.
Edinburgh Worst player of the year
Ben Atiga - for being generally rubbish, for his poor conditioning, and for totally failing to live up to his billing - remember the headlines? “Former Junior All Black star signs for Edinburgh.”

Glasgow Player of the year
Stuart Hogg - From Hawick boy to potential Lions tourist in the space of a year.

Niko Matawalu - he plays like the scrum-half I always wanted to be, but never was. Mr Excitement.

Byron McGuigan - the epitome of the flashy preening back, but who has done nothing to back it up. He may be Scotland qualified, but on his form, I would actually rather he wasn’t.

Scotland -v- Australia - For weeks afterwards, even after the tour was over, I still couldn’t quite believe that it had actually happened. The defining memory for me is after the first Scotland scrum (the one Oz obviously wheeled), when Laidlaw and De Luca ran over to gee the forwards up, and there was a look of sheer predatory malice on Euan Murray’s face as he packed down. Awesome.

Worst loss of the year
It has to be Scotland -v- Tonga - Scotland played badly, but should still have won. To squander so many opportunities, and then to be shown up by a few moments of Tongan brilliance was bloody depressing.

Best atmosphere at a game
Edinburgh -v- Toulouse - Edinburgh needed Murrayfield’s upper deck. End of story.

Worst atmosphere at a game
Shamefully I’m going to go for Glasgow -v- Ulster in the Heino - the Ulster fans were wonderfully loud and proud, but we were really poor. I remember wishing we had a song as good as SUFTUM.

Apparently it's only Fijian rugby commentators and airline pilots who can go to work hammered and it doesn't matter.

How about Hogg's try on his debut vs Wales? Terrific handling and nous to be up with the quick break but because he was Scottish, Poite assumed he must have knocked on. The ball having come from De Luca can't have helped, of course...

Ha ha - loving the memories of the Fiji game at 2am. It was bloody stressful in our sleep deprived state!

That also has one of my favourite all time rugby moments - Talei getting both teams in a big circle at the end of the game and leading everyone in prayer. Religious or not that was a really special sporting moment and something that didn't get enough coverage in the media and wider rugby world I think (despite me tweeting it at every rugby journo and personality going!!)

Ah I see you've been inspired by my 606v2 awards ceremony, glad I can actually vote in this one, and its all about Scotland which is even better!

Nathan Hines, one of my favourite all time players for Scotland. Like me he's lived most of his life in Australia but he gave his all for Scotland.

Yeah he has, bit of a silly decision really but I don't really follow Glasgow goings on's as much as Edinburgh's and he just came to mind because I spent a while researching him when I saw he was in Glasgow squad. I'll change that one to Dunbar, haven't seen him play lately but I was very impressed with him earlier this year.

I beleive we had 2 scottish winners in the 606v2 awards (as supplied by bsando)

GeorgeCarin AKA Dod and ASBO AKA ASBO both won a decent award (not wum of the year or the like)

Have to say RDW has some crackers, although George Carlin, Radge and ASBO are hot on a lot of things. I think I'll have to go with RDW though seeing as there can only be one! As said above everyone here is great though!

Being a Scot stuck in England, I only get to see the odd game commentated in bongo tounge, so feel I can not always contribute about the Pro teams, but it is good to be recognised
