Life on Mars
Just started watching the first series on DVD (yet again!) and I have to say it truly is one of the best TV programmes I've ever seen with DCI Gene Hunt being one of the greatest characters of all time ("I wanna lawyer!" "I wanna hump Britt Ekland, what are we gonna do?" )
What are your thoughts on Live on Mars?

Life on Mars = utterly brilliant. Gene Hunt is just one of those incredible characters, must be an actors dream to get a part like that!
Personally though I preferred Ashes to Ashes, yet both are great

I only caught the first series of Ashes to Ashes sporadically and none of the next two as I used to work nights, got them all on my lovefilm list now though!
So you'd say it was better than LoM then rugbydreamer?

Marshall Lancaster who plays Chris Skelton in Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes is a mate of mine.

Really? That's awesome Hero!
He must have had a blast being on both those shows.

He's appeared in a few other things such as Becky's boyfriend on Corrie for a while, a sitcom on ITV and bit parts in Holby & Casualty.
He still though finds time to come back to Macc to watch the football.
Best was when I caught him in Tescos looking at a TV mag that an interview with him in it, took the right pee out of him.

For me personally yes, I just loved the interaction between Gene Hunt and Alex Drake. Plus some of the violence in policing in LoM I found really uncomfertable to watch. One of the best things about Ashes to Ashes though is that Chris and Ray are brought into it more. Plus there's the fact that I just love the 80's! Both are brilliant though for sure

Re: Life on Mars
I've only just come across this thread. LOM is my favourite TV programme in recent times, have both series on DVD. Is there anyone else who would have done Annie?

Re: Life on Mars
Utterly brilliant.
Watching Life On Mars for me was like how I used to feel as a little boy watching the original series of Star Trek for the first time back in the early 1970's - pulpable excitement and anticipation and the feeling of a journey into the unknown.
Life On Mars was one of those series set in a certain time period that was so well done that it had that great ability to transport you back in time literally for the hour it was on. It was also laced with non-pc humour which I love with fantastic characters and plotlines.
As for comparing it with Ashes To Ashes, for me Life On Mars just wins out as I felt that Series One of Ashes To Ashes concentrated to much on the sexual chemistry between Gene and Alex which watered it down a bit though the latter two series were back on track. Next up I must get Ashes To Ashes on DVD as I already have Life On Mars.
