2012 Olympic Selection Policy
UKA have announced their London Olympics 2012 selection policy and standards in the wake of changes to qualification periods by IAAF, moving the starting point forward from October 1 to May 1 2011. That means that the bulk of performances set by British athletes through the summer season peaking up at the World Championships in Daegu will count for qualification purposes towards London.
Along the same lines with the Worlds in Daegu, the qualification period for the multi-events, marathons, 10000m and race-walking has commenced since January 1 2011.
A substantial change as concerns automatic qualification through the UK Olympic Trials is that any athlete occupying a top two place in an event needs to have set either a Current A standard (set from April 1st 2012 on) or have finished in the top eight at the World Championships in Deagu and have an A standard (withing the qualification period) to ensure of one's berth on the team. The latter term shapes a first in the matter.
Athletes that don't qualify courtesy of a top two placing at the UK Trials may still claim a place by means of A or B standards according to the policy laid out.

Re: 2012 Olympic Selection Policy
Sophie Hitchon's new UK hammer record has made the third Olympic B qualifier on the first day of the qualification period. The first signs look very promising.
