El Generico signs with WWE
-- PWPonderings.com reports that several sources, including two promoters and a top independent talent, have confirmed to them that El Generico has signed with WWE. Generico has has been working in PWG, EVOLVE, CHIKARA and ROH recently.
----
Another huge Indy guy (if you're unaware in who he is then I thoroughly recommend you check out some of his matches on YouTube etc, here's some of his moves: https://youtu.be/XlTIN6TkQrg ) joins WWE.
Kudos to WWE over the past few years in that they changed the mindset of what makes a potential star in the industry as they seem more and more willing to look at guys that don't fit the Cena/Orton cookie mould anymore.
Surely though WWE won't be knocking next for his adversary/old tag partner Kevin Steen?

That's baisically his gimmick.
Yet another good capture by WWE, Not sure how he fits into there system as his gimmick and moveset is a tad out there but he is one of my favorites going today, his body of in ring work and ability to interact and get over with The crowd is fantastic.

That's what really frustrates me when they sign up all these indie talents. It's their move set, their gimmick, their character which has caught the attention of the bigger promotions, so why insist on changing what works well? What's the point sending them to development so they can take bumps all days for 18 months in the hope that the writers have something meaningful for them to do? (Low Ki anybody?)
I'm delight to see El Generico get his big break. He's been in the indie scene for a number of years now and no matter where he is on the card, he'll always put on a fantastic match and puts hard work into every single show. If he can keep his character to a degree, then he'll be a massive hit with the younger crowd just like how Santino is. In a selfish way I'm disappointed I will no longer be able to see him on various indie promotions.
I'd strongly suggest checking out his in-ring work on youtube, you'll quickly grow to like him. He's easily on of my fav's

Re: El Generico signs with WWE
theres plans for a cruiserweight show/division rebirth at somepoint so surely he and PAC for example wouldnt have to cut back too much.
Theres rumours of alex shelley and a few other american wrestlers Plying there trade atm in japan (gaijuns) are very disheartened with whats happening in NJPW at present and wwe are looking at the circumstances there

A cruiserweight division made up of El Generico, PAC (Adrian Neville), Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, Evan Bourne, Sin Cara, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin etc would be fantastic viewing, would love to see it as a show in it's own right too rather than as filler on SD or RAW (though if they made it quite the focal point of SD it would rejuvenate the show).

Surprised at that, thought things at NJPW looked pretty rosey following the takeover and the sucessful IPPV's, certainally looks the place to be when compared to NOAH for example.
Is it a lack of empahsis on the Jr Heavy's or on the gajins themselves?, Does that include Devitt? I'm not as big in on Jap wrestling as I used to be but I keep a passing interest and this news surprises me.

Not seen loads of Del Sol but he looks a fantastic talent, if WWE could land Ricochet I'd die a happy man.
I know WWE are a much bigger company but I wonder if Tna have ever tried to land any of these guys for The X Division, it would certainly be a lot stronger if they did.

I've questioned this with TNA on the podcast lately, TNA used to be fantastic at bringing in indy talent but for the most part of really gone off the boil apart from Aries.

Re: El Generico signs with WWE
Just to further my original Post:
We can now confirm the first report from PWPonderings.com that WWE has signed El Generico to a deal. One of the reasons WWE was so interested in Generico was that he speaks a number of different languages, which would be an asset for international markets.
Generico's signing is part of a bigger WWE plan, as the company has a number of names on their radar that they want to lock in for deals. The El Generico signing was a move by Triple H.

Triple H could well be the saviour of WWE. Unless he just buries him for fun. Seems to value the Indy guys more and have a sense for what the wrestling fans want

Apparently This Has Been Through Big Kev For Cole And Callihan As He Was Impressed With Them At A CZW Show He Was Backstage At Recently.
Is He Working As A Scout Or Something Or Is He Just Helping His Buddy Out With The New Way Of Bringing In Smaller Indy Guys?

Surely losing his current gimmick is a good thing? I haven't seen him but from what I've heard on here, it seems that he is devastating in the ring but no praise has been given to him for his gimmick or mic skills.

I quite enjoy his gimmick if I'm honest, I can see positives for and against it if I'm honest, it's very unique but can look a tad daft from the outset and for a guy who's made his living travelling between different indies it would be a challange to try and sustain that gimmick in front of an audience for 52 tv shows a year.
He's not a bad talker but he's mostly an actions rather than words guy from what I've seen, he's also genuinly very funny, check out his promo 'Learn how to speak English' with Cabana from PWG Threemedous, its on the Wrestling Youtube thread.
From what I've gathered though, and I've said this before, Generico's greatest strength is his ability to interact with a crowd.

Re: El Generico signs with WWE
More on Callihan and Cole potentially joining:
Following WWE starting the process to sign Independent star El Generico, word is that Adam Cole and Sami Callihan will have tryouts as well with WWE.
The company has changed their attitude about signing top independent workers that don't necessarily have the look and size that WWE traditionally looks for. This is partly due to the success of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and now Dean Ambrose and Seth "Tyler Black" Rollins. Punk and Bryan have specifically caused a different mentality when it comes to talent coming through the Independents as well as talent that doesn't have the look, the size and the physique that used to be the first thing they would look for.
The old WWE mentality was to sign people who could be TV stars and teach them to wrestle the "WWE style", as opposed to signing great wrestling talent and giving them the ball and seeing how far they can run with it.
----
Particularly excited at the potential signing in Callihan as he was part of a tag team for a while with Dean Ambrose known as Switchblade Conspiracy and has a very similar mic style.

The only reason I can think for the Briscoes to be attending devolpment is to make sure they don't kill anyone, they're hard as nails in the way they work
