Why Halfpenny could play 10
I'm basing this on all the skills that I have seen him demonstrate thus far.
As a neutral this is my opinion on him as a player.
He does an admiral job at 15 for Wales and an even more impressive job at 15 for the blues. I just feel being a 15 he isn't involved as much as he should be. In regards to acceleration, sidestep and a rugby brain, he is the closest thing Wales have to Shane Williams. If he was back on the wing he would be presented more possession and score more tries. He could also run more line in set plays and pop up at 9 or 10 like Williams did.
On top of being a great all rounder and tough nut, Halfpenny has a monster boot. After seeing this try against Toulon he could be a revelation as a 10 for Wales.
To see the try just goto 4:15. Please add the www . YouTube . Com in first

Re: Why Halfpenny could play 10
I have personally thought this for a while and was highlighted when he stepped in at Twickenham when Rhys Priestland was sin binned in the 6N 2012.
Defensively puts his body on the line and is most definitely quick enough to make plenty of line breaks. With Patchell and Tovey as 10's at the Blues, Priestland, Biggar and Hook all current options for Wales not sure he would get much game time there but would probably be a risk worth taking in the end.

Not a good idea IMO, you have one of the best fullbacks in the world so why change his position ? He is a virtual shoe in for the lions tour at 15 and has spent the last umpteen years mastering the skills and positional nous needed to be a world class fullback. He is an awesome all round footballer so im sure he'll do a job at flyhalf, just like israel dagg would probably be a good fly half but he's an awesome fullback. Shifty him around and you risk turning him into another james hook, someone that had all there early potential held back by positional shifts, jack of all trades master of none.

Re: Why Halfpenny could play 10
I don't see him as having the composure and game management to play 10 at the highest level (at least, not without a lot of game time there for his club). I'd also say that his least impressive skill is distribution, which clearly is critical for an out half, although the role is easier with Wales rather limited game plan of recent matches - short ball outside to Roberts or on the inside shoulder to North...
Very good back 3 player, and where he shoud stay, at least as long as the guys in front of him give him fewer suicidal try saving tackles to attempt than they did in the AIs.

Re: Why Halfpenny could play 10
who is the next guy in at 15?
Is lets say a Bigger at 10 and Halfpenny at 15 combo worse than a Halfpenny at 10 and player X at 15... if so then go for it.
Its a team game afterall.

He will tour because he is class, versitile and has a massive boot. Kearney is a better fullback but Halfpenny may pip him to the test spot because of his goal kicking prowess.

Just like Jinks in 97.
Howley likes picking rubbish 10's so not even Biggar or Hook will feature in the 6N.
Ceri Sweeney to start against Ireland.

Kearney on his day is also immense, but i'd say his string of injuries have knocked his consistency over the last while...my girlfriend also likes him so Kearney stays at home and off the telly

Re: Why Halfpenny could play 10
Halfpenny could well start on the wing for the lions.
I'm not sure Halfpenny would make a decent 10, he has played patches where he has been 1st receiver sure but so has Shane Williams in a lot of his later games for Wales. I'd rather he stay on the wing.

He would make a tidy 10, but plenty of 10's in Wales so can't see it happening.
Personally thou im not a big fan of players switching positions about to much.

Even when coming back from injuries Kearney has been nothing but consistent.
But I see where you're coming from...
