A lot of tyson talk recently...here's some more
First topic message reminder :
Tyson got beat off Douglas. Why? He had a lot on his mind? He was a bully and Douglas wasn't scared? He'd lost some head and foot movement? Douglas was just better and laid the blue print? It was the first time someone big, powerful and talented could go toe-to-toe and get the better 50% of the time, and out box him at distance? He didn't have the mental fortitude to deal with adversity?
We all have our opinion as to why he lost, but my question is...
If we supplant Douglas with Bowe on that night in Tokyo, what happens? Much of the same, or not?
Further, if we replace Smith or Tucker with "Tokyo Douglas", was Tyson so much different then that the result would have been different?
Maybe watch all three fights first? Memory can be a funny thing..

I only ever get hummus in nando's actually which is a South African restaurant if I'm not mistaken. So I might not have sampled to Morrocan variety.

I would argue it did originate from portugal. piri-piri or peri-peri is the mozambique words for chile pepper. It is true the pepper came from Mozambique. However Mozambique is a former colony of Portugal. The portugese took the chilies and made their own dishes, most notable peri peri chicken which is served in Nandos. So the ingredients came from Mozambique whilst the dish came from Portugal.

Regardless, Ghosty's question?

It is very different to a curry. You are only calling it a dish from Mozambique because that is where the chilie originated from. It was PORTUGESE people who invented the actual dish peri peri chicken, unless of course peri peri chicken grown on trees in Mozambique.

Errr no. Mozambique people have been using that chilli for eons. Tje Portuguese chap marketed it.
Quite what it has to do with boxing is anyone's guess.
Ghosty's question or are you going to duck that?

I think we've long established that it isn't going to be answered. And more to the point why should it be as it has nothing to do with the debate. Unless we are obliged to answer random questions on demand or face a fierce backlash?

The problem occurs when someone digs their heels in about being correct yet decide to ignore a question which will cast doubt on their position.

The chilie known as peri peri comes from mozambique (and many other african countries) but the sauce peri peri sauce which is used in the dish peri peri chicken is portugese, hence why peri peri chicken is portugese and not mozambique. Just because one ingredient originates from somewhere does no make a dish which has many different ingredients belong to that country. A portugese man used the peri peri chilie and many other ingredients to make peri peri sauce which is why it is portugese.
Regarding this question that I keep getting asked to answer, I did answer it. I answered it with another question. I was asked some random question about who was seen as the best boxer in the 80's and I replied asking who was the best Moroccan boxer of the 80's.

I'm still waiting for your answer as to who was the best Moroccan boxer of the 80's. It is a very relevant question just like yours.

Not at all, knowing the world level scene during Tysons era is fairly important when discussing him, it gives you an understanding of who he fought and how they were rated at the time.

In order to rate the brothers as an example it's important to know their era and the fighters who were around including those they didn't face, seeing as you claim to know the Tyson era so well I thought it would be a simple question to answer. From the surface of things it would appear that all the information you spout is straight off of Boxrec, at no point have you mentioned anything from outside of those parameters.

Douglas didn't give the impression that he wasn't confident or was intimidated once through the ropes.
He'd recently lost his mother and other bad things had happened to him - he fought like a man that gave 100% and with nothing to lose.
Douglas was vastly underrated and probably, rightly, due to the way he raced ahead against Tony Tucker and then folded - his stamina and fitness had always been questioned but he seemed to turn up in 'tip-top' shape for his date with Mike.
The fight will live with me for a lifetime - it was both shocking and exciting to see it unravel.
Tyson always had problems and his life was playing out like a soap opera but that didn't stop him seeing off good fighters like Tucker, Tubbs and Williams. It is probably true that you can't keep living a certain lifestyle and keep performing at your best and the accumulation of the parties and lack of focus, over the years, caught up with him against Douglas.
But, lets give Douglas a helluva lot of credit as many contenders of that time wouldn't have performed the way he did that night in Tokyo.
