Place Your Bets
Mayweather is about to announce his next opponent. http://www.boxingscene.com/mayweather-opponent-selected-announcement-coming--61673
Give me your top 3!
1. Guerrero.
Mayweather loves to beat up small Mexicans.
2. Pac Man.
Psyche!
3. Canelo.
Yeah, right. The most hyped man in boxing. Worse than A-Force pre-pancaking.

Re: Place Your Bets
I'm not getting at PBF.
It's more a dig at the fact his options are so limited due to Top Rank being run by a complete fart of a human being and there not being enough talent out there. Canelo associates himself with every single name in boxing. He'd use Ali's if he thought it help his 'star' status. The boy fought no one yet.
If Canelo doesn't fight Trout he is a coward.

"Mayweather loves to beat up small Mexicans"
1. Floyd started as a super feather.....So Guerrero isn't likely to be much SMALLER...
2. Ortiz and DelaHoya weren't smaller than Floyd...
You'll be calling him a ducker next..

He's not a ducker. Could have stepped up in opposition sooner though... hung around all those years fighting sub par opposition. Bit like RJJ in his prime.

I think whoever he picks could well win the lottery, Floyd is on the slide now and style wise I think Guerrero could give him problems and Alvarez will be a tough fight just by his size and strength.

Dave, any chance you plan on learning to use the quote function any time soon? You're a bright lad I'm sure you can crack it.

Re: Place Your Bets
Rowley I've told you before, when I hit the quote button, the box marked "post title" Is supposed to autofill. It doesn't for me and I asked if anyone knew why. You replied a while saying it was something about "cookies" but you weren't too sure either.
Also, I only really wanted to take issue with a small part of Davide's post and, from personal experience, find it frustrating to have to keep scrolling down other people's post to see what the heck they're going on about.
Thank you for your feedback though!

Re: Place Your Bets
you dont need to put in a post title. Just leave it blank.
And you can delete the parts you dont want to quote.
Another way to add a quote is to cut and paste as you have done. Then when the text is in the reply box, highlight it and hit the speech bubble button above.
The highlighted text will now be quoted.

Re: Place Your Bets
Hope it's Canelo, think it'll be Guerrero
Despite Guerrero not being a huge name or a huge threat, I just love seeing a Floyd Maywetaher fight and he can only choose from a couple of opponents
Guerrero will be game but lack of hand speed, stamina or power will allow Mayweater to outbox him
If he wins, and Canelo wins his fight (hopefully it will be on the Floyd card as Guerrero-Mayweather isn't strong enough for PPV), then Mayweather-Canelo will be huge come September and a real pick'em as Floyd is much smaller and 36/37 when it happens

WUM statement.
Juan Manuel Marquez.
Shane Mosely.
Ricky Hatton.
Victor Ortiz.
Zab Judah
Oscar De La Hoya
Cotto
Castillo
Corales
Gatti
These are boxers he has beaten. This is a who's who of the Welterweight division over the past 20 years, Pacquiao aside. How can you say some of the garbage you do?
Utter utter wum.

@ Jabmachine
Good names when taken out of context I guess.
Juan Manuel Marquez-- Blown up to a weight he could never compete at. Lessor size and by a mile reach. Vital when speed is taken.
Shane Mosely-- Shot
Ricky Hatton-- Blown up and lacked reach, over hyped and fights face first. Tailor made for PBF.
Victor Ortiz-- Lost control always would. Got smashed by Lopez, point in case.
Zab Judah-- Complete hot head, all the talent, none of the brains.
Oscar De La Hoya-- The biggest hype job in boxing. The Canelo of the 90s. Lost all the big fights.
Cotto-- A very good win.
Castillo-- Lost one won one.
Corales-- A very good win.
Gatti-- Shot beyond belief and scared.
Happy now? Two genuine elite wins. Two.

TRUSS, are you insane? He lost to every single great he fought. He beat up a beat up Chavez yeah, but every other fighter spanked him. And Sturm beat him too. HYPE JOB-- the man is the definition of hype job.
Did well to win gold at the Olympics though, and never ducked. But still.

Whitaker and Chavez are great fighters Davide, if you're going to dismiss Chavez as past it or Whitaker as fortunate you have to apply the same level of scrutiny to his losses and the Trinidad loss in particular could just as easily have gone the other way.

Two great fighters passed their prime, IMO.
Ricky just lost but was it the real Ricky?
RJJ loses all the time but is it the real Roy? Do we even remember the names of the hags that beat him up anymore.
Come on now Rowley, the Trinidad fight was lost because DLH ran away for the last four rounds like a kid in the playground whose teased a dumb child, one too many times.

Makes no difference that he ran away for the last few rounds, he should have been home and dry on the judges cards anyway if they had functioning eyes.

Re: Place Your Bets
Juan Manuel Marquez-- Didn't do too bad against Pacquiao at the weight did he?
Shane Mosely-- Came off 2 wins in Mayorga and Margarito, not too bad eh?
Ricky Hatton-- Was undefeated (blown up(?) the man walked around as a light heavy
Victor Ortiz-- Was seen as a dangerous all action fighter
Zab Judah-- Not his best win, but still I'd say a rather talented boxer
Oscar De La Hoya-- You're a WUM
Cotto-- A very good win.
Castillo-- Sorry, but I believe he beat him both times, one was close, but still a win.
Corales-- A very good win.
Gatti-- A boxer who was known for going to war, was WBC Light Welterweight champion and came off a 5 match winning streak. Shot indeed..
They were all genuine elite wins.
You've been exposed as a Floyd hater. Well done. Wum.

Re: Place Your Bets
Hindsight is a wonderful thing
Except Judah (because he just came off a loss to baldomir), Ortiz (no-one really
Beloved he could cisse the upset) and Cotto all of those fights were dangerous fights for Floyd
Corrales wa as pick'em, Castillo was a very good fighter, Hernandez was an amazing win given his age, Hatton was the very best at lightwelter and his style was suppose to pull floyd into a war, De La Hoya wasn't his best at middleweight but was suppose to be too big and too strong for floyd, Marquez wasn't suppose to be beaten so comprehensibly having cemented himself as a top p4p fighter, Molsey had destroyed Marg (one of the fighter splits is accused of ducking) and has speed and power that floyd hasn't met before and Gatti was I use his strength to bully Floyd who was debuting at lightwelter after being a small lightweight
De La Houa is not a hype job at all, maybe you can say he didn't warrant the money he earnt in comparison to better fighters but he holds wins over Chavez, Whitaker, Vargas etc after starting as a Superfeather and had his fair share of luck and fair share of little luck with a couple fights like Sturm, Trinidad, Mosley

Equally, one could retort that if Hatton was the very best at LWW then why did Floyd make him come up to WW (context being Hatton having just had a v.poor performance at WW), and as much as I find the argument slightly cringeworthy, a typically inconsistent performance from Cortez meant Floyd fought his own fight and no 'war' element was allowed; similarly JMM was made to come up in weight (and looked bloated at it) for a catchweight Floyd agreed and ignored.
Not knocking him per se, just saying you can put a lot of different spins on things.

Agree, boxings funny old sport and you can you can be critised by someone on a fight while praised by someone else for the same fight
In regards to weight, Floyd had been a welter for a few fights already and he was the big moneymaker of the 2 and was regarded as the better fighter. You rarely see the better fighter succum to fight someone at a lower weight whereas they can come up to you. Marquez I can't defend but the fight as 'Marquez' vs 'Mayweather' was always going to attract people as they where both p4p fighters and they had to fight at a weight for both and Mayweather didn't want the short straw as he had more to lose. I can make the case that Floyd never rehydrated throughout his career so by fighting floyd at 144/146 he would be fighting him at that weight on the night, whereas the lightweights (mainly diaz) and Superfeathers Marquez were fighting beforehand probably weighed close to that on the fight night also and Maruqez likewise used to rehydrate 10 or so pounds so the weight wasn't suppose to make that much of a difference but it did

Mayweather is a street kid. He's from poor black ghettos, so, it is in him to naturally try and hustle an advantage over his opponent. If it's on the level then they got's to pay the man.
A Canelo fight would have to guarantee Mayweather 50-60 million dollars.
