First topic message reminder :

Was looking forward to this event don't usually like to fork out for the box office PPVs unless I think it will be worth while but watching this morning on fast forward before work I felt let down by both the title match and the rumble.

The most predictable Rumble in years, I was hoping WWE would be abit more creative and use the rumble to give a midcard the win for a change instead of taking the Boring. Dull. John Cena route. Never been so unexcited about a final 3 than I was by Sheamus Ryback and Cena.

Secondly the ending for the title match. Could of been done in such a better way, I was shocked/happy when I thought they were going to keep the title on punk....but no they swerve that and put the title on somebody who turns up for a few months to sell tickets for wrestlemania.

Wasn't overly impressed by there match last year at Wrestlemania and now it's happening again and it's so obvious that Cena will win it this time. Another 3 months of dull Cena promos....can't wait.

I could just be wired of all the coffee and nicotine i've had today but could the Undertaker be behind the shield, setting up the feud with Punk!!!

Punk to get fed to Ryback at WM... seems fairly logical due to the need to build Ryback back up

Dont agree - if he entered the rumble and got eliminated cheaply, his return would have little impact.

If he is kept back and goes on a winning streak, its much more effective. He would get lost in the pack of the rumble.

For me the Rumble is perfect to get somebody like Mark Henry over, you have him enter kick ass for a while, eliminate some people who have been in there for a fairly long time and then have everybody team up to get him out. You don't have to win to get over.

Jericho's pop was immense! The crowd were great all night to be fair.

Everything is just so predictable though. Was it ever in doubt that Rock and Cena would win? Is it really in doubt that Cena will win the strap at Mania? I know it makes perfectly logical booking sense but its just so obvious. My 7yr old nephew said 'that means Cena will beat the Rock at Wrestlemania'. He's 7 and sees it clear as day. The only way I'd be interested in Cena/Rock II is if its a very physical build up full of hatred resulting in a No Holds Barred match at Mania. I'd buy Mania for that. Would love to see a similar finish to Mania 17 with Cena unable to put The Rock away so resorts to multiple chair shots to get the job done.

But again, it's obvious it won't happen, it'll be a build up of cheesy happy go lucky promos and Cena wins the strap, the shake hands, thanks for coming.

If the other main events are indeed Punk v Taker and HHH v Lesnar, they are also as predictable as you can get. Punk won't end the streak and HHH will beat Lesnar.

If that is the card I don't actually think I'll buy the PPV. It's like buying a movie you already know the ending to.

Fans will complain at unnecessary swerves yet complain at a logical booking situation! I am fine with the Rock-Cena scenario - just was not a fan of the Rock/Punk match. Expected a lot more and was v disappointed by it.

Logical booking is not always what the fans want, it screams of doing everything "safe" and without risks which is what WWE tends to more often that not nowadays.

I do have a problem with Cena-Rock, but I admit that that probably stems from always being a Rock fan and I don't want to see Cena go over him (regardless of whether he deserves to or not).

But from a storyline perspective, I believe they could have gone in opposite directions.

I personally think Rock/Punk should have been left until Wrestlemania and really given the big match hype.

I still would have had Cena win the Rumble, but I would have had Dolph Ziggler win the WHC by now and plumped with Cena vs Ziggler at Mania aswell.

But I can deal with what they have done because Cena/Rock is one match. As long as the rest of the booking between now and Mania favours the guys that deserve pushes, I won't have much of complaint.

I have a feeling the match was affected by what I think was a legitimate injury to Punk.

Rock Cena makes sense because a) Cena 'needs' a win over Rock b) it will draw the most money... I don't think it will be the best storyline because there is no heel there, however, it will be driven by the title so that should be less of a factor as last time.

My guess at this stage is the card will be:

Rock v Cena - WWE Title
Ziggler v ADR - WHC
Taker v Lesnar
Punk v Ryback
Orton v Sheamus
Bryan v Kane
Divas Match
Gimmick Match
US / IC Title
Large Tag Match

It might have been, it's only a hunch I have. Only Cole picked up on it first, which is one reason why I don't think it was planned, it wasn't picked up on the cameras at first either, only shown in a replay. I'm also not sure the way Punk was selling it that it wasn't genuine, there were also a few nervous moments around then where he first spoke to the referee and then got his head close to Rock's to whisper something to him. The match felt a little odd and I imagine that's the reason why.

Kay Fabe wrote:I thought it was a cracking show, sometimes peoples views can be driven by the outcome of matches but as a stand alone event I felt it was great, the Rumble match was the best in a few years, the WWE Title match was great too, it wasn't a classic but it had that big match feel to it, you don't always get that these days as guys are thrown together so often

Its logical booking, Rock/Cena is the biggest match they can promote, the only way to get around the 'once in a lifetime' Tag Line was by making one Champion and the other the #1 Contender

Wasn't a big fan of the WHC ending, Cena done it 3 years ago with Batista, I feel its a heel way to win, this kind of finish doesn't allow for the feud to finish and since the next match is a multi-man match I'm not sure how they'll get anyone else over as a serious contender other than Big Show

I'm not a big fan of Jericho these days but felt he put on his best performance since around 2008 last night, I seen a few people wanting a Mr Perfect moment, well I felt he delivered that last night, Ziggler annoys me, the over elaboration in the selling just makes it all look so ridiculously fake, its hard to suspend your belief when he's bouncing all over the place. Kofi Kingston will never win a Royal Rumble but as long as he's agile enough to have a unique way to save himself he'll always have a spot

I’m with you on Ziggler. He wrestles every match like how Shawn Michaels wrestled Hulk Hogan at Summerslam 2005. I’ve never got what all the fuss is about with Ziggler but I do think he’d have more chance of being a main event player as a face

I don't think he always sold like that though, the constant praise for his selling has obviously gone to his head so he's started to overdo it.

he oversells yet still steals the show.......yes im a dolph ziggler "mark" i think he should already be in the main event yes he over does his selling but it's part of his character like stealing peoples girlfriends everyweek etc........think its just an exagerated version of himself in real life.

I don't think he steals the show at all, he's actually managed to go backwards over the past year or so for me. The overselling is often ridiculous and can ruin a match. I'm not sure where the huge amounts of love for him come from, nobody loved Shelton Benjamin this much and I'd say Benjamin was always on par with Ziggler if not better.

I'm with Crimey, he doesnt steal the show at all. What was the last PPV we all came on here on a Monday morning and raved about Dolph Ziggler?

He's steady enough in ring as a reliable mid carder but for me he doesnt have enough charisma or character to cut it as a regular main event level heel.

I recommend listening to the rumble section of the podcast when it's up, as we talked about a lot of things discussed on this thread.

What I will say is that I'd take supposedly predictable booking every day of the week over the unpredictability of Taz joining Aces and Eights.

Also I didn't see anyone predict the false finish to the Punk-Rock match, which had me fooled even if nobody else fell for it!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the commentary by JBL, I thought he added to the whole PPV with his commentary, his sly quips to cole and king etc. he actually made me laugh quite a few times all through the show.
