Tomic banned from driving
I guess police in Australia - as all over the world - take every reasonable opportunity to stop bright yellow Ferraris (not that I speak from personal experience ).
And when they find the driver to be a cocky young tennis player with 'previous' .......

78kph in a 60 though.
It's trivial. But he's still a d1ck doing it on a probationary license.
He needs someone around him he's scared of. Would Lendl consider taking on a second apprentice?

Exactly. Why on earth would he take the chance on probationary licence?
The boy is in need of guidance. I would've said his dad needs a word in his ear, but I doubt he would have any greater words of wisdom.

He recently sold his Yellow M3 Beemer because it was to high profile!
Now he has a Yellow Ferrari!!!
Glad it wasn't Murray that was caught or we would have had a much larger article by you know who? lol

If 89% of hawkeye's articles are about Murray, at least 99% of your posts SL are about hawkeye or make reference to her.
So who is the obsessive?

Touche
Now let's get back to the tennis - or the speeding, if you prefer.

89% or 99%, both would probably come under extremely obsessive... speaking of obsessive, I always feel thats the problem with fast cars... you fell like you wanna put the throttle down and get the rush but you really can't on anything other than a racetrack without getting in trouble with the rozzers or much worse. Tomic under a new coach might be a good idea. A real task master, what's Gilbert doing?

I would suggest that SoCal take Tomic under his wing, if SoCal is agreeable, and get Tomic to relocate to SoCal.

Re: Tomic banned from driving
This is true. About 15 years ago I had a beast of a car, the heaviest thing I've ever driven with had a top speed of about 175mph. It was physically difficult to drive it anywhere near to within speed limits. Thankfully I got it out of my system without getting into trouble.falzy21 wrote:89% or 99%, both would probably come under extremely obsessive... speaking of obsessive, I always feel thats the problem with fast cars... you fell like you wanna put the throttle down and get the rush but you really can't on anything other than a racetrack without getting in trouble with the rozzers or much worse. Oh nothing too absurdly extravagent, it was a Porsche 928S4. Jet black, bucket seats, the widest tyres you've ever seen, a true "Batmobile". They're vintage now and quite old hat but at the time it was astonishing. I got myself on a very long run of motorway once and hit a speed that I still wince thinking of. I probably can't say for fear of incriminating myself but take a speed you're thinking of, and then go faster.HM Murdoch wrote:Come on BB, you can't drop a little morsel like that and not tell us the make and model!bogbrush wrote:This is true. It seems Tomic is fast going....nowhere.
Just seems his focus is completely on tennis somehow.
You never any of this stuff with the other greats.

You see it in sport everywhere, young players with lots of ability but zero application. Likely to achieve nothing of note but will make millions in the process.
I think the issue is the rewards for mediocrity in the richer sports can be great, so he may be happy @rsing around whilst still making a nice living.

What about girls and toys? . I am sometimes allowed to drive a stick Acura GS-R (circa 1996) for fun. Unlike the Porsche, this little one is quiet and can hit 150+ mph in it's stride (do not trust what Google search says as it's top speed). I enjoy it when I can, if my sons are not watching. (Should I admit this on a public forum? )
BTW, Rush's Red Barchetta comes to mind every time I think about it.
Especially this part...

Ha! I can just picture the fuel gauge dropping as quickly as the speedo is rising!bogbrush wrote:Oh nothing too absurdly extravagent, it was a Porsche 928S4. I preferred the look of the 928 to the 911. Still do actually.

It did! Plus the soft tyres used to wear faster than a F1 car. I got done for speeding once (!) and got out to go to their car because I was dreading the copper coming to see me and seeing four "slicks".HM Murdoch wrote:Ha! Laverfan, I appreciate your high opinion of my skill set. But I am hardly a disciplinarian or a good influence for the young, but if I can sneak a thermos of Macallan's into the practice sessions to keep myself warm I would seriously consider it.

Federer is up for debate in the sports GOAT competition. You may want to add your thoughts.

Surely, that Ferrari (newly bought I presume) must be a complete waste of money then if he now won’t be able to drive it.

How can these mediocre players that don't win much afford ferraris, I guess it is nice being a rich country like Australia's number 1 player. Sounds to me like there is a lot of unprecedented corporate money in this game, another sign of the financial well being of the game. When you have never won anything and you can buy yellow ferraris maybe most people like the tennis and it isn't a dying sport.

Yeah, Bernard Tomics Ferrari means tennis is being developed perfectly.
Obvious really. I guess that's why English footballers are better than they've ever been.

A Ferrari was the "death" of Verdasco in his earlier tennis years.. had he spent more time playing. practicing and training instead of running around Madrid in his yellow "bird" catching Ferrari he may well have been a better player .

Re: Tomic banned from driving
No but it kinds of cuts against the party line that the game is losing fans and suffering as a result of "boring" play. It does seem to point out that the money from corporate sponsorships and endorsments is flowing into the game, why would they do that if the game is boring and losing fans.

I don't think anyone has said it's happened. I think some of us think that it might, especially post Federer / Nadal and the difference they bring.

Don't get me wrong bernie is not my favorite player but are we really upset with him for driving 18 kph over the speed limit, it sounds a bit like getting upset at someone for nothing really. I by the way, have a quick little car myself but I don't drive it fast at all and haven't received a moving violation or had an accident in decade, do I get a cookie or a gold star or something?

Does anyone know if Tomic owns the Ferrari or was it a rented one?
