Gomez needs to be here, Truss, I would think. Norris as well, maybe? Really, it has always been a terrible division, going back to the days of Marvin Camel and S.T.Gordon. When you have Carlos DeLeon at number 2, you know that to call the division's history "chequered" is an act of the greatest kindness.

Brave man for trying this, Truss!
Might edge Haye ahead of DeLeon on the basis of him managing to unify, which Carlos never did. Haye certainly the better specimen in any case. Also, I'd probably edge Qawi in to the top five as he was the only man who really managed to extend the by-far-and-a-way number one in Holyfield in that fifteen round classic.
But a good list on the whole and I wouldn't really quibble too much with it.

Or Anaclet Wamba. Not only did he have a great name himself, but in his last fight he beat the immensely named Perfecto Gonzalez.

Difficult one as Toney would have beaten most on that list IMO.

I agree that Toney would have beaten most of them and I suppose O'Neil Bell should be in there also for his unifying of the division and beating at what seemed at the time an indestructible Mormeck.

"The who cares thread..."
Sling your hook...
Deleon won the title four times I suppose that swung it........
It was a hard one and I can't argue much about any of the names put forward that would be better...
14 stone is a great weight so it staggers you that it isn't more competitive..

Haye beats mormeck and Enzo and takes third spot? bit of a joke really. Adamek, Cunningham, Huck, Hernandez, Lebedev, and even Mormeck have much better resumes than Haye at cruiser.
you can argue all you like that Haye could have been a great cruiser but the truth is he wasnt. he had two title fights and left.

i still think you are doing adamek a disservice. he has a better record, would still be champion now if he so wished, and would have a great chance against haye. if you dont live in england this list looks very different.

Accomplishment at the weight does have to be considered..
Why I have deleon slightly higher than Haye who'd break his head..

Re: Top 10 Cruiserweights of alltime ??
i would love to have seen a haye mormeck rematch. things might look slightly different then. was a great fight and a great win for Haye, im not trying to discredit him. but mormeck got over confident and it was a rabbit punch that stopped him. if they fought several times im not sure there would be a clear winner as there is now.

Re: Top 10 Cruiserweights of alltime ??
I always thought Qawi was an excellent fighter. On ability alone only 2nd to Holyfield I think. The division is such a stop over one and lacking in sustained quality that Id be tempted to emphasise divisional acheivement less and rank more on actual ablity.

Good list overall but Adamek and Gomez are the glaring omissions.

Did think about Adamek.......
However talent aside a lot of these guys spent a lot of time at the top in Boxing terms.

Re: Top 10 Cruiserweights of alltime ??
I'm a Qawi fan too, Manos. Had a remarkably good career for a man so short in comparison to his divisional rivals at 175 / 190 and also a man with no amateur career.
Great to watch. Made his lack of height work in his favour; when he got his head near his opponent's chest he was a right nasty piece of work and had a great array of attacking shots.
I also love the fact that, even when he was taking shots as he came in, he always seemed to have that half sadistic snarl, half crazed smile on his face!

Yeah for such a short guy Qawi could box remarkably well on the outside too and was brilliant at jabbing his way in close from the outside. Seriously well rounded fighter that was highly unlucky to run into one of the best ever light heavyweights and the best cruiserweight of all.
