Can Wales win the championship?
Wales could win championship
First topic message reminder :
Wales always go on a run after a big win...anything's possible now.
Few things that impressed me:
Team spirit after last week.
Leigh Halfpenny and his kicking: Wow
Dan Biggar proving he is class
NO LINEOUTS LOST! What? Ye really!
Last 3 Wales v France games, France haven't scored a try.
Mike Phillips was awesome.

Teams always try to talk down the possibility of winning the Grand Slam but England are the only team who can so talk will obviously focus on that and with a very poor France side at home next then Italy they realistically can be going to Cardiff 4 from 4.
In contrast to that I honestly thought we would be going into the same game 0 from 4 but we now have that win undermeath us it might give us the confidence but we have two away games.

I dare that you down your prematch drink every time you hear a commentator say "who knows which French team will turn up" before the game.
And if a French team do turn up, the same for "we said, you never know whether the French will turn up or not" after the game. I defy you to end up in Hospital mate.
My nephews were playing a game at the local rugby club, that they found online. Every mention of JW, RWC03 or God by an English pundit/presenter, BOD in reference to him being a "great of the game", Scotland being "tenebrōsus equus" and unfortunately for them every time Jonathan Davies says "Numbers" or "failed to exploit the overlap".
Poor lads were under the table before half time...

Dangerous stuff. Best to stand back, be mature and use the wife as an excuse to not get involved. At my age my tolerance for serious alcohol is not quite what it once was.

Assuming Wales have their mojo back properly and the France game isn't a one off I think it will be between them and England for the title. Ireland also in with a shout, if other games go their way.
As an England fan what worries me is that this (i.e. the bit in bold above) is typically when France are at their most dangerous... a lot rides on that game, and it wouldn't surprise me if in typically unpredictable fashion France play superbly. If France win the tournament really is opened up, if they lose then I expect England will be very much in the driving seat. Even losing in Cardiff I'd expect them to get it on points difference.

Totally agree, Alun. Far from over.
However like all great snooker matches it would be best if they closed the roof for this one.

I say leave the roof open. Rugby's an outdoor sport. If it rains, it rains for both sides.

Wales won't beat a rejuvenated England team this year.

Read the question again, Boycs: it's 'can' Wales win, not 'will' they win.

Can? Well yes they "can". I "can" win the lottery.
Probably won't mind, but doesn't stop me bunging £2 to Camelot every Friday.

Lydiate and AWJ returning to the squad is a massive bonus for Wales. Jenkins found a bit of form at the weekend and the line out also went well. There's plenty of positives for Wales. I fancy us against Scotland and Italy away tbh. If we had lost in France, I'd be looking at those games in a completely different light. However, the confidence of a win for the first time in 8 games for me, will see a different Wales side from now until the end of the 6N. Not necessarily game plan wise, but confidence in execution and not worrying about losing.

Re: Wales could win championship
well, looking at it scientifically, we will win the championship. no doubt.
it is obvious that we will beat italy and scotland.
france are going to come out a different animal and beat ireland and england.
wales will then beat england to decide it.
it just won't happen any other way.

Only way it's "over", realistically, is if England beat France comfortably. If that happens, you'd have to be pretty optimistic to think that Italy won't give up a fair few points at Twickers themselves, meaning that England's points differential is likely to be too much for Wales to make up.
Even with a narrow English win over France, Wales+ mojo have an outside chance of sticking enough on Italy and Scotland to make the last game meaningful. If England win by 10 or so, I think that it will be too tall an order.

Quite so, LP. Last time Wales beat England by more than 10 was the Robert Jones-dominated RWC quarter of '87. Think you're going to have to do a right number on Scotland and Italy to be at the races come the final game if England oblige on Saturday week.

Can't see France beating England at twickers. Not only don't i think they are playing well enough to do so, the mental element is also against them considering they haven't won there in a while.
2011 - England 17-9
2009 - England 34-10
2007 - England 26-18

France are "the mental element".
Can't rely on them for anything - to hold a national border against a German, play good rugby against Wales, play bad rugby against England - nothing.
An unreliable mental element!

look, france have played pretty dire for two games on the trot. have you ever known a french team to keep up that record? they are enigmatic and will come out firing. they will be a different team. meanwhile, england will be the same team of no marks who stick to the same boring basic gameplan. they will be undone and found out.

I have to respect both of you for confidence. I think the opposite, but no where near as
confident as you! Mind you, bet you both had Ireland to win last weekend too
