Burns v Vazquez... Not signed? Empty Burns v Vazquez... Not signed?

Post by rob-glos Wed 20 Feb 2013, 11:09 am

Morning...

Vazquez said in an interview yesterday that the Burns fight isn't signed and sealed.

Given that the fight is only a month away what are the chances that this fight won't happen?
Does anyone have any insight on similar things from the past?

I've got tickets and I'll be really annoyed if this fight is pulled but I've got a bad feeling....
Tweets from Tony Bellew and Ryan Rhodes on the subject suggest there's substance to the claims.
Nothing from Frank Warren or Boxnation but I expect a statement will have to come out...

Yer I've seen this also. Its annoying because you wont get a refund unless the event is scrapped. If they are just going to replace a boxer, they wont refund your ticket and seeing a couple of the replacements for Burns last time i.e Walsh and Ocampo its a worry.

Frank is basically trying to sell tickets on the back of a main event that probably won't be happening! There should be a rule in place that you can only advertise for a fight once its been officially signed.

Especially as most fans dont live locally and have also purchased flights and hotels.

Julio cesar chavez is the right age and is a legend........so maybe Warren can get him in......

Warren logic : You become a legend if you beat one..right???

How they can sell a fight that isn't signed is ridiculous, that should not be possible to do.

this better happen. Outrageous if not and almost fraud since they are selling tickets off the back of it.

Well I just got a tweet back from Boxnation saying that as far as they know the fight is signed and if anything changes they'll make an announcement.

I'm not sure if that convinces me.

I heard that money is the factor. Warren is probably trying to shaft Vazquez over to line his own pocket!

Agreed with above comments, shouldn't be allowed to advertise and sell tickets on a fight which has no contractual substance!

I think it will happen.

If Burns beats Vasquez he can dodge Broner due to saying he has already unified and doesnt need him (or rather Warren stating that).

Burns isn't a particularly big draw so it doesnt make sense matching him against nobodies now that he is getting a good bit of recognition.

If the fight doesn't happen I would lend towards Vasquez being to blame (money etc). Because Warren and co have done everything to indicate that the Burns is ready and willing

Well, Broner has basically said, if he doesn't get Burns next, he's going to 140, it will be a clear sign of ducking if Warren doesn't stick him in with him now, the money will be his career highest and it will be massive exposure on HBO and Burns has a chance if he fights out of his mind.

Was quite surprised to hear this yesterday.

Hopefully, all will be resolved and the unification goes ahead. I agree that contracts should be signed and sealed before announcing and selling tickets.

But it wouldn't be Warren if there wasn't a hint of devil in the dealings of a fight. boxing
