Re: Jamie Roberts
As is - can't offload, doesn't want to pass, zero kicking game. I don't think he's a bad player at all which is what makes it so infuriating seeing how Wales use him. The bosher up the middle routine can be very effective, and Wales do it better than most, but they have players who can do far more, including Roberts.

Re: Jamie Roberts
Problem Wales have is that the whole gameplan is built on route 1 carries and he is/was the main exponent...i think perhaps the main problme he has is that he was so good and has now settled into mediocrity but is still somewhat effective...i am loathe to tinker with our backline now - it is pretty good but what we must do is get the back 3 attacking the line or bring Byrne in

Re: Jamie Roberts
For the lions I'd rather have brad barritt.... He wrapped up basteraud very well and is becoming quite the player. Roberts has been living off the last lions tour for a while.

Re: Jamie Roberts
FA the problem with Roberts is that his full skill set isint being utilised, just his size and power. Hopefully with him off to france, wales can learn how to better use him

With Phillips at 9 (who is excellent at some things, but not passing) the style of play is pretty much decided.

He was outstanding in the WC too, harsh and false to imply the last time he played well was 4 years ago.
Seriously though, was Roberts playing yesterday? I'm not sure who to blame more, him for lack of effort and a comedy of errors or the Wales playing and coaching squad for spontaneously forgetting how to use him well.

According to ESPN he had the ball 3 times, 1 kick, 1 run and 1 pass. Wass he used as a dummy runner?
Mind you, Biggar only passed 6 times (about 25% of the ball he got)

Agree. Always see George coming off his wing. Defo worth a try. Roberts is going nowheret1000advancedprototype wrote:This would work better.

Re: Jamie Roberts
I agree players can suffer in certain set ups and quicker ball and a more creative attacking strategy may bring the best out of Roberts but you also can't completley blame wales for Roberts being poor. If Roberts was truly the world beater we all thought he was in 2009 then he would create something using his talent even in an underperforming team, class players can still stand out. Roberts has got the blinkers on i'm afraid and is truly shown up when you look at the recent performances at 12 from twelvetrees, Fofana and Barrit which have all stood out for distribution, gliding running/speed and defense rock/leadership. Roberts has had a rotten run with injuries and is living off past reptuation at the moment, I have no doubt he used to be very good but he just looks for contact and its too predictable, time for a change and a rocket up the bum to hopefully spark some life back into the girt lump.

Re: Jamie Roberts
Hook for 12 he has always been an inside centre in my eyes, also help Biggar out having him there.
Roberts has a place in the squad but a change would do him and Wales good, he can play centre wing and fullback so he could easily make an impact from the bench.
Henson is over, i like him but he is not the answer.

Re: Jamie Roberts
If Hook is as good as people think he then he would have taken his chnaces and cemented a starting place.
Henson isn't playing anywhere near regulalry enough to be considered.

Bit harsh to judge someone from a game as wet as that.. Roberts looked better in this match than he did against ireland. They are the two games I have seen live this year.

Roberts started his Wales career on the wing and sometimes 15 and he did well. Good try out in SA in 2008.
Seriously.. George North could be Wales' BOD at 13. JD2 is a twelve. However.. Wales desperately need a footballing 12 with a kicking game. Secondary kicking option from Hook/Henson was invaluable.
