Lions wings?
First topic message reminder :
Not Welsh bias but I would have to say North and Cuthbert.
North is a god among mere mortals, Cuthbert is a born finisher.
Ashton can't tackle for love nor money and Bowe may not make it in time.

Re: Lions wings?
Am I reading those stats correctly? Has Hogg made 4 tackles and missed 5 ??? Not what I want from a full back as the last line of defence.

Re: Lions wings?
I want to see this
English half backs
English centres
North and Halfpenny must start
Impressed with Maitland
15. Halfpenny
14. Maitland
13. Tuilagi
12. Barritt
11. North
10. Farrell
9. Youngs
However I feel Gatland will pick..
15. Halfpenny
14. Ashton
13. BOD
12. Roberts
11. North
10. Sexton
9. Phillips

Re: Lions wings?
Norths defence is probably the best of any wing option, not sure where that criticism is coming from.
Cuthbert and Ashton have been nothing short of pathetic defencively.
Zebo and Gilroy are hardly defncive monsters, they are decent enough.
Brown is a decent all rounder but a poor wing option, and we have plenty of FB cover in 1/2, Kearney and Hogg.
I find all this defence talk rather negative, Cuthbert and Vissers strike running and conversion rates definately outwiegh their defencive weaknesses (especially as neither are particularly talented rugby players)
I personally want to see finishers, line breakers and out and out talent on my wings, and I would definately take Wade as an outside option!!

Really can't see Ashton getting on the tour, he has done nothing to prove worthier than several other options. Brown is a far better winger. If England weren't on a run of victories his place in the team would be seriously under scrutiny.

Ashton, Bowe, North and Visser for me.
All could enjoy running up some nice tries and gain confidence from playing the weak Australian provinces.

Re: Lions wings?
I think we should all be praying for Bowe to make it, because there is very little after him. Ashton is weak in defence and has a poor strike rate at international level, his try against New Zealand was his first in 11 tests at the time. Cuthbert for me is a good finisher and very difficult to stop but doesn't have great all round skills - may travel but not as a first teamer. Other than that you are really looking at the Scottish wings and Gilroy for 14. We could probably do worse than North at 11.

Re: Lions wings?
Farrell at 10 Ruby which frees him up to have a more offensive fb apart from Half. No Cuthbert either, defensively his positioning can be awful.
