Favourite arcade game ever?
Following on from Hobo's thread about your favourite game ever, which seemed console/PC-centric, what is your favourite ever arcade game?
I have very fond memories of playing the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles arcade game with my brother and two cousins in an arcade in Mablethorpe. Admittedly, with one, two or even three players, it was never as good. But with all four of the amphibian killing machines involved (Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo, not me and my family) it was the best fun I remember having in an arcade.
I was 10.

Please tell me you mean the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Leave that PC "Hero Turtles" nonsense at the door!
Not sure what I would say was my favourite. I'll have to think about this one.

No ninjas in 1980's Mablethorpe, David Tails. Only heroes.

My favourite was WWF Superstars. Me and a mate would always be late back to college after dinner due to this game. Good times.
Turtles was excellent too as was The Simpsons. Street Fighter 2 was around at the same time as well.

Hey what's wrong with 'Hero' Turtles?
Nothing can beat Street Fighter 2 Turbo.
Nothing.

Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom.
I spent an absolute fortune on this when it first hit the arcades.

Another vote for WWF Superstars from me - used to leave school during "free" periods (which was strange seeing as real free periods didn't start until college) and spending my paper round money playing this against my friend at the back of Venus Video's. Good times.

The Turtles and Simpsons for me. Used to spend ages with my cousins playing on these.
In February I was at Barry Island and went in the arcade they use for Nessa's Slots for a look around. They had the Simpsons machine in there. I was in heaven!

Barry Island still has a special place in my heart!
I wasted a load of coinage in those arcades.

I saw the Horse Racing game yesterday!
It was at Xscape in Braehead (Glasgow) in the amusement arcade there.

I was always a fan of Time Crisis, Superman, Out Run and my fave was Star Wars. The Star Wars game was like the racing games where you would sit in it and for 10 minutes I could pretend I was luke Skywalker flying down the trench of the death star. It still puts a grin on my face just thinking about it . Happy days!

Double Dragon, WWF Wrestlefest or Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, hard to pick a winner.
If I feel like playing one on my pc, then it's generally double dragon, if work is quiet and theres a couple of us in my lorry we can play Turtles 1-4 player!

Final Fight for me.
Gotta love Mike Haggar doing the spinning clothesline while going ooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! He did the move long before Zangief in SF (I think it mentions Hagger in the bio of Zangief).
I actually spent £15 worth of 30ps (10p x 3.....none of this £1 a go rip offs you get nowadays) and completed it at the arcade at Butlins in Minehead.

First time i completed final fight was with a girl I met from Somerset while on holiday in Ibiza when I was 14, that was the last night I saw her before she went home.
I did complete Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles for the first time in Minehead, Butlins though!

Where was that mate? Was that in the arcade by the outside pool? I can remember the position of it. It got swapped with the Michael Jackson arcade game Moonwalker.
I used to go to the arcade above the Beachcomber, where all the snooker tables were. That was where the Final Fight game was.....and Predators and Robocop.
(This convo will make no sense to other people)

Yes it was that one near the pool, the 4 player version. there was 3 people on it, and 1 space so I asked if I could join and they allowed me too, (I got Raphael sadly). I used to love the Quasar, laser gun game also.
There also used to be an indoor arcade, with a ghost train there as well, but it's not there these days.
I used to goto Butlins in Minehead several times a year but they hammered up the prices so much over the last few years, it's cheaper to go to Spain for 3 weeks then spend 3 days in Butlins these days...

They have now put everything under a massive tent. I went there once and hated it. Everyone was hemmed in. The outside buildings were just left to rot.
Such a shame. The great thing about Minehead was it was like its own little town. It took a good 15 mins to walk from one end to the other. It never felt packed.

Hmm the old arcades are still there, they are behind Pizza hut. I think they have now removed the shooting game though, you had an old rifle, and you shot like jets of air, and a guy in a cupboard would come out, or a bell would ring etc.
I agree though Butlins isn't as good as it was when I was younger, but to be honest I'm the parent now not the kid and my parents said it wasn't as good, as it was when they were younger, I guess it's just nostalgia.
When I show kids today a game like Double Dragon or turtles they laugh at me... to me these games are god like!
