Re: Top Heel Of The Attitude Era: Triple H Or Mr McMahon?
I think Mr. McMahon has got to be more important, while Triple H was a top heel, Austin's rebellion against the evil corporate owner of McMahon was what the fans really bought into and loved. There was a lot more satisfaction for Austin hitting the Stunner on McMahon than there would be on Triple H.
In many ways Triple H was quite a standard heel, and while he was very good at what he did, McMahon was so slimy and encompasses what so many people hate in their bosses that Austin doing what we all wish we could do was so more important than Triple H as the standard heel. I think the Mr. McMahon character had a much more profound effect on the success of the Attitude Era than Triple H did.

Could the OP maybe add a poll to this and then people can also leave comments stating why?
For me Vince will always be THE heel of any era. His character was so evil at times and his battles with the top face of the company will go down in history as one of, if not the most heated rivalries ever

lets be honest, it was Vince and Austin that made the attitude era, and without vince, Austin would have been nowhere near as popular as he was.
in regards to HHH, i think he is the best heel the business has seen in the last 25 years.
he gets quite a lot of grief by people because of who he is married to, but he was well on his way before marrying steph.
in regads to actually telling a story in the ring, i dont think you can get any better than HHH.

Vince was the most important heel, Triple H was probably the more skilled. I think its often forgotten how well the Rock and Triple H did to carry on the excitement of Raw after the big Austin lay off

From a business view: Definatly McMahon. The Yin to Austins Yang, the ultimate antagonist. The son of a bitch boss the working man loved to see get his comeupance.
Personally though, HHH is my favourite heel ever. And it speaks volumes when you take McMahon and turn him face against Triple H.

No question at all for me, its Vince all the way, I also think The Rock did more than Triple H too simply because he was the guy they went with to oppose Austin when the screw was turning, by the time Triple H (who was phenomonal IMO) got the opportunity then the WWF was the only show in town and WCW was on the ropes...2000 was the year of Triple H and he has a lot to thank Mick Foley for in that regard but by then the war was won, that's why for me Vince gets this accolade by a huge distance

Vince McMahon by a country mile. Triple H was great in 2000 (thanks in no small part to Mick Foley) but would Stone Cold and the WWF have taken off like they did if Austin was just going up against another wrestler instead of his boss? No chance in hell.

During the Attitude era? .. Hands down McMahon.
I said in the earlier post about the Austin/Rock thing, McMahon was the biggest heel of the Attitude era as Austin was the biggest face. McMahon represented corporation, he was every bodies boss. when he was getting stomped on by Austin everybody watching was picturing themselves doing it to their boss or in my case some teachers I didn't like at school but never the less it was a character that everybody hated.
I'll give credit where credit is due, HHH while he was and can be a great heel, he has never been the top heel of wwf/e apart from when he was leading Evolution or when he teamed with austin to form the whole power trip tag team. that's only on 2 occasions and I don't think that any of them fell in the attitude era.

The beauty of McMahon's character was that he was the legit boss, so regardless of how many times he got a beatdown by Austin he was never weak because as the boss he still held all the aces, that's why they could get so much mileage out of that particular storyline, anytime Austin won the battle McMahon changed the rules, it was a never ending game of cat and mouse, Austin got enough bites to keep him satisfied but he was in a war with the system that was simply impossible to win

I never really begrudged him that Rumble win either because of it, it all fit so perfectly with the character in my opinion and just added to the levels of I do what I want. Almost in line with a great Piper quote "Just when they think they got the answers, I change the questions"
