Thank god we don't Have Bonus Points
Before the torunament started there were words from the organisers that they were looking at the suggestion of changing the points system to the now standard 4 for a win, 2 for a draw + TBPs and LBPs.
While there may have been changes lower down the table, at the top there would have been a critical and unjust change. The 4 tries scored by England on the first weekend would have given them a TBP. Wales would have failed to earn any bonus points, losing by 8 points to Ireland and
Of course we cannot know how things would have actually panned out had bonus points been in operation - but I am glad that such a travesty was avoided.

Re: Thank god we don't Have Bonus Points
I agree. 100%
This tournament is unique. It is truly about defeating your opponents. Full stop.
The possibility of winning the Six Nations with fewer victories than the team in second is not what this is about. I like Bonus Points in league structure. but not here.

Re: Thank god we don't Have Bonus Points
I agree I can understand it in a league thats played over 20 something games, but in a 5 game tournament where you all play each other once, and in different parks of Europe where the weather can alter dramatically during Febuary / March, it would be a silly idea.
France and Italy can have great weather at this time of year. So how do you factor that in against a soaking wet Dublin or Edinburgh?
Leave the bloody tournament alone!

I have yet to meet anyone who would defend BP in the 6N.
I think everyone love the tournament as such.

Agreed, BP would not bring any benefits.
