Try of the tournament
Guys and Gals
What are your nominations for the best try of the six nations? So far I nominate
Simon Zebo vs Wales - ridiculous piece of skill
Alex Cuthbert vs England (2nd try) - Great set up work by Tipuric

That was a great try but I still prefer Zebo's and Cuthbert's. The defending against Fofana was pretty shocking.

Zebo's try was from a good pass by BOD. Are you thinking about Zebo's heel flick to gather the ball? That after a few more phases was involved in Cian Healy flopping over.

Re: Try of the tournament
Borderline for me whether the replacement who made the turnover was on his feet all the time. He seemed to me leaning on the English players before he got back up on his feet when he stripped the ball. The England players could be heard saying off his feet but Walsh played on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCE34Npj1AI Check it from 39 seconds.
It's a try but could've been an England penalty. For that reason Fofana's try.

Ken Owens was definately off his feet, but he was the opposing side of the ruck and I got the feeling Walsh had lost patience with a few English players telling him how to do his job

Are you talking about the 1st try which I don't think was a penalty anyway but it's the second I've nominated where Tipuric dummy's Brown

Re: Try of the tournament
Right you are. I am talking about the 1st try and I do think it should have been a penalty for being off his feet. Though the ref saw it from the wrong angle. But nice bit of play by Tipuric to send Cuthbert in for his second.
I think the intent by the French to run the ball from their own half should be applauded in a tournament where too often the counter attack was not used.

It was quality I just have a problem with the barn door defense by Ashton

Zebos try was down to shockingly poor defence by Cuthbert, the heel flick wasnt his try

Yeah I've been corrected there already. The flick still led to the try though and it was a great piece of skill - if not a little lucky.

Between Hogg and Fofana, two great solo efforts. Healy's try against Wales, Parisse vs. France, and Fall vs Italy in the same game were all quality team tries.

Maitlands try against England. Great piece of individual play then recycled well after being stopped short. Maitland involved about three or four times before going over.

Cuthburts second try.
Faletau beats a few, warburton makes a great breat then the skill from Justin to put Alex in the corner..
The whole backfield made that try.
Castro's v France, the build up was epic. Length of the field.

Re: Try of the tournament
Sometimes we avoid the obvious just because subconsciously we think........well, it's too obvious, therefore it must be a little suspicious in true worth. Let's not choose it.
For me, the try of the tournament was the one that stood out - the shiny one that everone was oohing and ahhing, the individual almost casual stroll by Fofana to effect what was a try that never really should have been scored....and probably wouldn't have been by any other player. He seems to have a enchantment about him at best. Players just don't seem to know how to do the basics to catch him and knock him. It happened at the weekend too, when he gave ample opportunity for opposition players to catch him and almost jogged home unopposed.
So the try for me is the obvious Fofana one, even if it's the 'boringingly' obvious one.

Wasn't many to chose from to be honest.... given the weather has had such a detrimental impact on the event perhaps we should think about changing it a month up to improve things a little.
Fofana's vs. England was a bright spark in a dark dark tournament in terms of match quality.
The 2 games in the MS were the best, both played under good conditions.

Not really seeing Fofana's try tbh. Bit of gas and a hand off against some really poor defending. There's deffo been better tries than that scored this six nations.

I cannot believe that no one else has mentioned this. My favourite, certainly. First phase off the top of a lineout in their own 22, spread wide, great break and then the pace of Visser. Simple yet beautiful. Argument could be made that there was crossing/obstruction as a French player was taken out allowing Scott to break the line, but it wasn't picked up. There's something sweeter about a team try rather than an individual, so my vote goes for Visser with Fofana a close second.

Re: Try of the tournament
More than half of Scotland's tries this year originated in their own 22. Any one of them could be in the running.
Norths try against the French was a great finish though.

Aha...I'm right so...Fofana's was probably too good to be any good. Yeah, I think I might have oversold the real effort and catty skills needed to score that one. Sorry guys.

Hoggs interception and run the length of the field. It was no luck he got the interception, Not only did he read it he played for it, Brilliant piece of skill

Hog was lucky, it looked to me he did not fancy tackling and went for the interception and it came off. I go with Cuthbert's second try as it involved a number of players and went up and across the field of play. The French try against England demonstrated England's weakness on the wings i.e., tackling is optional just like Cuthbert's first try.

Re: Try of the tournament
I prefer BOD pass to zebo's try as a piece of rugby action.
As for the almost-try of the tournament, I liked that run from the french sub looshead on the wing yesterday, completely ignoring the real winger on his left shouting at him. Comic relief.

I'd give it to..... Halfpenny. He didn't do the spectacular stuff for Wales but he did the foundation stuff. Without the foundation you have a door left open.

And Roberts once again displayed that he is a good passer of the ball in yesterdays game. I wonder if those people who said he couldn't pass will finally admit that they're wrong.

Watch it again - you can see he is watching the ball an forces the italian to make the pass as he does not commit himself - its a brilliant piece of skill. One of those bits of instinctive brilliance that real quality players do -glamorganalun wrote:TJ wrote:Hoggs interception and run the length of the field. I thought the player of the tournament gets selected some time this coming week and announced by the end of the week.
I say Robshaw should get, don't ask me why!? but the English media has convinced me he is a demigod

Re: Try of the tournament
Very weird to be talking about which of Scotland's tries could be the best in a 6N tournament but there are genuinely a couple that are contenders.
My pick was either Fofana's against England (just silken running at its best), Cuthbert's against England following the Tipuric break (for the drama of it) or Hogg's interception against Italy - there's been an unbelievable amount of graceless, grudging snideyness on these boards about it - cannot understand why, it was a joy to watch and an example of picking your angles perfectly.
Ooooh, probably Wesley. Every time I see the surprised look on Chris "I want to hurt people" Ashton's face at getting a straight arm fend in his fizzog, I laugh until I'm sick.

Re: Try of the tournament
I know Hogg's is getting a bit of stick for the fact that it was an interception, but it was still a brilliant finish from that far out. Great wheels.
Mine would be Cuthbert's second from yesterday (being impartial of course), just because it was a joy to see Wales actually having the confidence to run the ball again.
