Murray talks of the fine line between fitness and injury
I found this to be a well-written piece, with some very honest and insightful comments from Andy (and his coach too...)
See what you think guys .....

Thanks for posting this Lags. It is certainly a fine line that they all walk, it shows how obsessed they have to be to win.

Hasn't this always been the case with athletes - we know those on track and field push their fitness so hard it actually becomes a fine line between fitness and illness. In tennis we have been seeing more mono case which shows how tennis players have pushed their bodies so hard they've weakened up their immune systems to the degree they've left themselves open to infection they would normally brush off.
This reflects how tennis has become much more an athletic as well as skill based sport. Perhaps too athletic...its like they're having to be 1500m endurance athletes but at the same time experts in technique and mental strength. Top pro tennis must be the most demanding complete sport on the planet now...in my opinion, and they should be recognised as such.

You have to wonder exactly about the long term health of these players with the intense tennis that they are playing year in and year out.
Quite the sacrifice.

I am for players choosing 30+ shot rallies on slow-as-$hi** courts and then talking about injuries and illness.
There is zero variety on the tour right now, and it will stay that way because of the desire to see legendary rivalries.

The Miami 2013 final being a case in point for slug-fests.
