Australia's Reward & Irony
I was thinking as I just saw the picture of Kirtley Beale gleaming as he scored the last minute try to defeat Wales in December. The joy was written all over the Aussies faces after the game. Surely one of the biggest ironies of this is that it has ensured that they are now in the group with Wales and England. I'm sure they won't fear any of these sides but then again I'm also sure they would have preferred things a little easier. Will Kirtleys try come back to haunt them. It remains to be seen

Re: Australia's Reward & Irony
That is a piece of irony.
Statistically this should happen.
Wales have beaten England 3 times in a row but before that lost 3 times in a row
So England win next 3...
Six nations 2014
Six nations 2015
Rwc warm up 2015.
Then wales win in the world cup group.
We are severely due a few wins against oz too.
Happy days.

Australia aren't Samoa. They won't be beaten by Wales in the RWC

Very much doubt that Wales and England will play an RWC warm up game - being in same group n all.

If Ireland and England can beat them at RWC, then yes Wales can beat them.dallym wrote:Australia aren't Samoa. They won't be beaten by Wales in the RWC

Or you could say Oz have won 2 of the 3 World cups held in the NH. One more than SA and 2 more than anyone else.

Or you could say that history is just that, history; and it will have no bearing whatsoever. At the moment it is probably the english who have most to worry about, however, like I said that can all change over the next 2 years

So RG, history is only relevant when it forecasts are favourable to your own agenda?

There's history and there's "at the moment" - A case of selective attention to provide a favourable slant to your own post. Easy mistake to make

Re: Australia's Reward & Irony
I don't really get the OP, reward for beating the Ozzies are now to play England and Wales in the same pool?
We play to win matches, don't we?
Evening Tom, how's the new place?

Fine thanks Corne.
I'm the same as you. Can't see any correlation between Beale's match winning try and the pool groupings. It's what it is.
Should they have played for a draw?

I take it they don't do irony in the SH, I though it was only the Americans that struggled with that - hey ho

Re: Australia's Reward & Irony
So what did you think of that try? "Kirtley's" look of gleaming joy must still haunt you, yes?
Still trying to find the irony by the way.

Re: Australia's Reward & Irony
I thought it was an excellent try against a tiring welsh defence. Great player, great energy and awareness on the field. More frustrated with the welsh failure to close out these games than having to be haunted by a player and a team that know how to take their chances - I still like the potential irony but appreciate it's lost elsewhere

Re: Australia's Reward & Irony
The fact that is all crystal ball conjecture, Ruby... hard to call it irony when it hasn't happened. So to say "it's lost" is yet another premature overstatement.
hint: maybe we can wait until the series is over, perhaps?

Ruby, did you get your lessons on irony from Alanis Morrisette?

Yawn, Ruby. The old residency argument.
You don't understand the terms you're using. It's amazing how many people use irony in the wrong way. You included.
I thought as a quack who is into pseudo-science you would know about this.
