Top 3 Opening scenes in Horror film history ??
The opening scene is very important as it is in a book.....Always liked Dean Koontz and King but sometimes If the opening chapter doesn't get me I'm done!!............Here are my 3 best opening scenes in Horror movies..The third of the films went on to let me down greatly although it was number 1 in America believe it or not!!!..........
1. JAWS ...............Never bettered and never will be...........The swim by moonlight, The Shark POV, The lonely death..............Wonderful!!
2. SUSPIRIA...........The spooky Goblin music..........The hand through the window.........Grisly death.............Beautiful craft at it's best!!
3. AMITYVILLE 2 THE POSSESSION..........Amazingly Iconic.......The most celebrated haunted house in America....Standing empty and looking at it's intimidating best...with leaves rustling in the drive..and an almost daring "FOR SALE" sign on it's drive.....and that almost "Omen like" haunting soundtrack of children humming.....Rest of the film was poor but a gloriously simple opening..........

I would nominate the remake of Dawn of the Dead.
Incredible opening that the rest of the film cant quite live up to.
And incedentally, I watched an Argento film the other night was truly, truly awful - the Card Player.

Phenomena and Opera weren't very good either...........Some of his work was lacking.......
However Profondo Rossi and Suspiria made up for the crap.

debatable as to whether they're horror films but:
Silence of the Lambs - pretty nervy start, Clarice running through the forest had me thinking she was other being chased or about to be ambushed
Scream - no p1ssing about with a build-up, dives straight into the brutality

28 weeks later, although the remainder of the film isn't as good as the original, the opening sequence is fantastic.

At last - a film that Hero and I can agree on!

The opening to The Wicker Man (the original not the Cage atrocity) really sets the scene well with the seaplane arriving and the folksy music adding a weird edge to the proceedings. Howie's initial meeting with the islanders and his lack of welcome is creepy without being over the top.

TRUSS wHAT is shark POV???
Where did you hear of this term???
Anyway my pick would be AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.
The 2 Americans walking alone in the Yorkshire moors. The howling in the distance and then the growling werewolf.
POV??? Where have I heard that term before????

Halloween 4 was an exceptional opening to a ordinary movie...........
The deserted countryside with ghoulish emblems and the quality score got you in the mood for some scares..
