Sorry Cari, I hope that one does the trick.
it is part of a deliberate campaign to get more folk off their bums to attend the games GW. Now we have almost blanket coverage it will be hard to go back.
TV3 is a disaster for the good people from a land beyond the wave and a disaster for coverage as they are BRUUUTAL

I would LOVE to go to a game. I'm not sure if I could go on my own...would you say it's OK for someone to go to a big GAA game on their own? Also how do you get tickets from outside Ireland?

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
No Problem to go on your own. Someone will talk to you. They always do. Last september I was chatting to a man whose nephew was on the 1990 team. I knew his nephew and I was in his mothers house when the sam maguire cup came to town. I hadn't seen her in 15 years. I explained who I was and sent my best wishes on the way. The fella sat on the other side of me was friends with my uncle. His local priest had just moved from the parish where my mate who got me the ticket came from.
I take it you want to see the Dubs? The Dub Footballers are the real show ponies. To see them, you'd have to catch them early before the hype machine kicks in.
As for getting tickets, The GAA is a crazy world. If you aren't in a club, it is weird. They just.....appear from some place.

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
Rebel - Thanks for that. I just wondered what it's like for people to go on their own....especially a woman. I can't imagine many women would go to an English soccer game alone. I've been to rugby on my own which was fine. I'm not bothered about meeting people as such, it was more of a safety question really.
I would prefer to see the the Dubs of course, although if I managed to see Cadogan with Cork I wouldn't complain
As for tickets, I wouldn't expect to get a ticket for the AI Final, or even a semi but maybe the previous games somewhere. My dilemma would be do I go to football or hurling? They're both exciting to watch. And then actually getting a ticket from wherever they appear from....

Women are as much a part of the association as men. There doesn't seem to be any misogyny at all from what I can see. Safety wise, I haven't heard of any problems ever.
You would get a ticket to most matches at Croke Park apart from the two finals.
being honest, it is the only place to watch a game. although it is best to see the place full and rocking.
Cork V Kerry (football)
Cork V Tipp (hurling)
Ulster football final
those three games, tickets are like hens teeth.
I can't think of man others that would always be fairly full

Thanks Rebel. So I can forget even attempting getting tickets for those three games? So the Dubs it is then! Another Dubs/Cork match would be awesome...!

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
I don't think I could cope with another!!!
On the topic of ladies and the GAA,
The league finals are today.
Clare beat Fermanagh by 4 points in the div 3 final.
The Dubs are about to throw in against Meath in the div 2 final.
Cork go against Laois at 17:15.

The problem is that a lot of games are just walkovers.
the crowd usually makes it too. A big stadium and a small crowd just isn't the same.

and also, to be fair, there is a lot more kicking in the ladies game. Fighting for the ball on the edge of the square is a beautiful thing. They do that in ladyball.

Cari,if you are looking for tickets I'd say Mickado might be able to get you one. Also there are nearly always tickets floating around on All Ireland day.For the AI semis you can get them easily enough..

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
You go up to certain spots round Dublin you will get a ticket at face value.Same as with any big event.I've found tickets for HC semi finals with this premise too.I know people who got tickets for last years AI final searching around for one.I do know people who can sort me out but up till the final there is no problem.

Cheers for the info Thom. I know Mickado could probably sort me out but I'm just enquiring in case I'm in Dublin and he's not around.

BBC lose out on a bunch of Ulster games as well.
Including the derry V fermanagh game. I am thinking about going to it and bringing the boy to his first senior game.....the wife won't let me though

How no?
If I wasn't so skint I'd be gettin a ticket and be over on the ferry. Hopefully I'll be over one of these days, and I'll combine it with a holiday to the ancestral homeland. I'd love to do a tour of all 32 counties.

He's too wee just now.
I would get engrossed in the match and lose him.
When I was away last week she stuck him in a Derry jersey and sent me the photo......I was mad as hell. But I am going to have to get used to it.
I took my girl to a couple of Derry City games, but she is a bit older and smarter than him and there are less people to worry about.

How do the usual LOI/ NI soccer attendances compare with the GAA ones?
I've been doing my bit to ensure good coverage of the national sports on v2's new youtube channel-

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
the LOI compares with a GAA league game i would say. We'd get 2k on average at the Brandywell and i'd say the Derry V Fermanagh game will get 10k or so. Maybe more.
I think that is reflective of most counties I'd say. I read a piece saying that the GAA accounts for 60% of all sports attended in ireland.

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
Thats well short of capacity, I thought that derry city would've got at least 6/7K.
Not sure if it;s true or not, but heard somewhere that there were plans to upgrade o'moore park to a 40K capacity as a substitute for smaller fitba and hurling games that don't quite fill hq.
Thats one thing I've always found annoying about the league, the small attendances for what seems like an overglorified pre-season friendly. Can't the proper championship season be extended and started earlier or have players spending more time with their club.

Re: Wall chart and TV shedule
ticket prices are much too high I am afraid. I don't think that many could get in there at the moment anyway.
The thing about not playing games at HQ is that everyone kinda wants to play there. 10k or 80k, it is still Croker. Outside Leinster, some players never get to play there, so i don't know if that really is the motivation or not, but certainly a great number of county stadia really need to get a lick of paint.
the whole calendar needs to be looked at in all honesty. the players give so much of themselves right throughout the year. I know they love it, as do we but I am sure things could be a little tighter right from club to inter county level.
