I'm a failure
I wasn't successful in my application to be a volunteer at the 2014 Ryder Cup. Bummer. Any else successful?

Re: I'm a failure
I assumed that the email I got the other day saying thanks for registering, you'll be the first to learn how to get tickets was a roundabout way of saying that.

Re: I'm a failure
Well the email I got just now specifically said I was unsuccessful, and asked if I would like to volunteer my services for the European Tour.

Re: I'm a failure
I missed out also.
I recall the form did not give the opportunity to list your handicap or years playing the game. A pre-requisit should have been a single figure handicap or 10 years plus memebership of a golf club (or something similar).
I suspect a lot of "non-golfers" will get lucky.
I assume the draw for tickets will be as difficult. I think I'll end up watching on Sky again. I can almost hear Monty already. Maybe Sky for pictures and 5 Live for the sound!!

Why?
I just think that Club Memebers of a certian standing either by ability of years membership should have more entitlement to Joe public. We are the backbone of the game, should do a better job and will get more out of the experience. I'm not saying 100% should be golfers, but a significant percentage should have been drafted from the local golfing community.

Re: I'm a failure
Scottie, the crux of what your saying is sound enough. I just wondered why single figure handicappers rather than just 'years playing golf or involved in golf' or however you'd want to word it.
I've never noticed any correlation between knowledge of golf (rules, etiquette, tradition etc) and ability.

Hi ban, you well?
I've been reading here and there without commenting for a while. Got a bit disillusioned after the whole split thing and tried to flitter between both sites but got fed up. Also have a 1 year old taking up my time and work has been busy so thought i'd give the forum thing a break. Been reading more and more recently as work has quietened down and couldn't resist a comment!
Have i missed anything fun??

Re: I'm a failure
Among recent highlights: a week of super realist praise and awe for his idol TW was outstanding. A few new faces which us always good to see too. Stick around! Hopefully we've all moved past what happened with the split. Lots of water under the bridge and it's not healthy to hold grudges. Good to have Davie back posting here occasionally too.
