THE PLAYOFF THREAD!!
First topic message reminder :
So then..
what's gonna happen.
We have the massive derby that is Palace v Brighton... Will there be trouble amongst the fans?
Will Nick and mysti meet up by accident !!
Will Brighton continue their form?
Has palaces first win in 10!! given them the confidence?
Is this match up about form or passion?
Will the difference be about one special player like Zaha!!
And then we have Watford v Leicester.
Watford play some great football but will the players have the passion that the other 3 have due to the fact they are just the Udinese reserve team(or could it be said there first team!!!)
Leicester have done amazingly well to get into this position as there were odds against. they must feel on top of the world- will that give them the morale boost.
Interesting times lads. Who is going to win out!

Sorry Mysti, I would rather it was a team who haven't had a shot at the PL so I'll be in the Brighton corner. Plus, can't stick Holloway.

Anyone but Leicester for me. It's too funny to watch them throwing money around and not getting anywhere. Used to like them but the money has dirtied much about their approach for me.
And I just want the Brighton Palace derby to finish cos no one gives a sh*t

Thats stereotypes though. The only time money was thrown around was in the Sven area - and look where that got him. Pearson is certainly not that type and the owners are investing wisely in things such as training ground etc. If you look at the signings Pearson has made then you will see not as much as you think has been spent. Its just laziness to brand us as a club "throwing money around".

If we are going to judeg any of the 4 teams then surely it can only be Watford with there unethical signings.

You say that, but you have the financial muscle still. Chris Wood this year, Drinkwater last, other clubs in the league had had them on loan and done the initial hard work, Leicester had the money to bully in. And the Sven era is still relevant today as it was only a few years ago. I stand by my point. Consider the way Pearson's job has been seemingly under threat until you sneaked in the playoffs. It's not the Leicester I grew up fond of

I kinda see your point but I wouldnt say its wrong or use it as a reson for dislike. We certainly arent paying sill money for these players. The price Wood cost was a bargain. If you have the financial clout, then to not use it would be stupid. As long as they arent doing a QPR of course!!!

It's mainly funny rather than dislike. I like seeing teams spend and fail. There was also a change in expectation and a touch more arrogance in some fans that I enjoyed seeing met with failure. I dislike all the playoff sides in some way though

West Ham my man! A lot of this came from sides attitudes to us last year. I felt there were a few managers and clubs who used us to enhance and protect themselves. I get why but I won't like them for it!

Back in those days maybe. Nowadays there's nothing, except that league cup game but it was nonsense. Clubs like Millwall, Cardiff and Leeds have fans who try carry it on, and Bristol City are nasty, but its not something you'll get round out way anymore.

you put palace fans in that catergory- what a crazy sentiment- you really have an issue with palace dont you. We dont have firms and we have never been violent..
I get your a brighton fan and you are young(so you havent had experience playing against these teams) and are clearly very naive to it all but you really should get your facts straight..
Dont get me wrong spout the banter about palace brighton rivallry etc. But these are just ludicrous untruths..
Ask any hard nut fan from another team if palace are on the same level as wets ham, millwall, leeds or chelsea and they will laff in your face..
But hey big us up all you want..!!

Re: THE PLAYOFF THREAD!!
You're too young for that stuff Nick, the only reason I know anything about it is cos I'm a fan of one of the big clubs of that scene and have read a reasonable amount about it. Nowadays, Cardiff, Leeds and Millwall still have reputations, and again I'll mention with surprise Bristol City. Its different for us though cos people who fight the West Ham fans arent representative of their clubs support, its generally chav kids trying to make a name for themselves against the famous ICF.
Especially as we travel in numbers, we took 6000 to Coventry last year.
You know my feelings on how we bossed you last year Nick so dont try and get me to bite. 7-0 aggregate I think wasnt it? I love teams who think we hoof it, its usually teams who found we were better than them and dont know how to react, clinging to media stereotypes of Sam.

The 1-0 at the AMEX was a joke. Mistake from Steve Harper and you win the game. 2nd half was complete domination. Can't remember but i think we were denied a clear pen.
The 6-0 was just embarrassing. Your direct style of play was just too much for us and we couldn't' cope. Admittedly our side wasn't very good anyway. Jara Reyes at right back says it all.

all that direct play
The 1-0 was brilliant, take the lead and then frustrate. After the season we'd had in the Prem you cant understand how great it was to see us just deny you chances and let you do nothing in front of our defence. There isnt a team who could do that in the Champ this year, thats why it was so tight from top to bottom.

Anyway, we won last years playoffs and I am almost jealous of the team that gets to triumph at Wembley this year. One of the best moments of my life when Vaz Te scored late on against Blackpool, I nearly full down the stairs at Wembley.
Back to this year (thats what the thread is about) and I think its really tough to call. I think certain teams wont beat others. I think Palace and Leicester would be a hell of a different game than Palace v Watford or Brighton v either side. I think Watford would beat Brighton and Palace would beat Watford, Brighton would beat Leicester but Leicester would beat Palace. Honestly how I think, which is nice and systematic.

Kevin Phillips puts Palace ahead in my "who I want to win the Palace vs Brighton game"-o-meter by saying this:
“I don’t think we can get too carried in a situation with it being a derby,” the hitman said, adding: “I find it bizarre that it is a derby.
“I can’t believe it. It’s stupid because it’s miles away."

Re: THE PLAYOFF THREAD!!
It's actually a nice feeling not having to worry about the playoffs this year. Certainly had my fair share of them. This year I'm thinking Brighton will win it all but it all depends on how the players react when they are I'm a big game situation.
In regards to the hooligan element of Cardiff, it's certainly still there but the club have tried hard to eradicate it (think we've had very few arrests at games over the past few years). unfortunately I have a feeling that we will be in the press for all the wrong reasons next year as we are playing teams we haven't played in a long time who will try and get one over on Cardiff. Unfortunately we've still got some Neanderthals who do try it on and end up getting a banning order. (thank god)
Like above posters have confirmed, outside south Wales Cardiff is still known as a hooligan club (and admittedly franchise fc) but things have changed since I started supporting the club.
Away from that side of the game tonight should be a good game. I'll be watching it in work on my phone (sod doing work on playoff dates) and I'll go for a tight 1-0 to Leicester.

It has allways been brightons derby more than palaces- but the truth is most of the surrey lot that support Palace go brighton a lot on days out and nights out- Its a 40 minute drive away and our 'beach'! The kent side of the palace fans are more your isle of sheppy crew

On the hooligan stuff, Id imagine its just youngsters getting the odd old hooligan team to play and having a pop. The police have been overly protective but very on the ball. Last year West Ham fans had to collect tickets from a service station alongside a motorway outside the city at 11am. Restricts the drunken part of it all. If Palace n Brighton think they have it bad then an early morning trip outside the city is far more annoying!
The policing will cut it out. Cardiff will be on the minds of the law. Guaranteed early kick off against us thats for sure. Less trouble in the prem usually, police are more wired up cos of the large number of fans and the tv times segregates things a lot easier. Its really nowhere near those days anyway, theres probably less fighting at football than you'd expect considering the penchant for fisticuffs in every town centre every weekend anyway.
I imagine it must be lovely as a Cardiff fan not to be in the playoffs! Always struggled with it, I admit I was chuffed when we got you in the semis last year, just knew we'd win those games.
Playoffs are a law to themselves. Some players relish it. The semis have pressure of the cup like style and then the finals have not only the goal close at hand but Wembley too. Players that had not been up for it during the season will come alive for the fight of such an obtainable glory, others will crumble under expectation.
I see Zola and Holloway as the best two managers for the situation, they have a way with players and their manner that exudes a lot of faith. Blackpool outplayed us for a lot of the playoff final last year, but they never had the quality to really make their build up work. Murray and Zaha could do that a lot better for Holloway at Palace.
I'd call a draw tonight. When both teams score its goals galore!

Re: THE PLAYOFF THREAD!!
Mate we've been treated like animals for longer than I can remember. Even this year Leeds tried to get us to have an early kick off and meet at a RV point to get the tickets. When we played them at ours earlier in the season all they had was a RV point (even 3pm kickoff) at the turning off the m4 they had to use to get to the ground.
I imagine our games with you will be a RV point but I have a slight suspicion that we will have a full bubble trip to the jacks and vice versa. Lol.
Last season I was happy to avoid relegation! Before malky arrived we barely had a squad let alone a starting 11 but somehow he got them into the playoffs and the carling cup final. With regards to The playoffs last year I fully expected what happened when we played you. Obviously there was always a slight belief that we could get a result but in reality We were outplayed by the better side both games. Here's a crazy stat for you; Nicky Maynard was the last person to score against us last season and the last to score for us this season.
This year you've got two managers who have never been involved in a playoff before and two who have got the tshirt from them. Interesting times that's for sure!
