Funeral Song
Following on from the first dance at your wedding thread, what would your funeral song(s) be?
Radiohead's Street Spirit and In My Life by the Beatles would be mine.
Sorry to be solemn

Re: Funeral Song
I would have Rainy Night in Soho by The Pogues.
Beautiful song and the last paragraph gets me every time.
'Now the song is nearly over
We may never find out what it means
Still there's a light I hold before me
You're the measure of my dreams
The measure of my dreams'
You morbid git, Stella!

Re: Funeral Song
If I was being mean spirited, I would probably have the full 17 minute version of "Mogwai Fear Satan" by Mogwai and insist that everyone remain standing for the duration.
Otherwise, I'd think something like "Satisfied Mind" by Jeff Buckley and the live version of "Shine a Light" by Spiritualized (although there would be some strict instructions on timing to make sure the coffin started to descend as the instrumental reached it's crescendo - a showman even in death).

Re: Funeral Song
I'd like to have Duran Duran's "Save A Prayer". Not because of the lyrics (it isn't actually anything to do with death) but because it's one of my all time fave records, reminds me of my childhood and sounds appropriate.
Failing that, Villager's doing "Do Not Stand At My Grave & Weep" is nice, but that could be embarrassing if no one gives a schitt!

The Clash - "Should I stay or should I go". Bonus points for the funeral car moving backwards and forwards to the lyrics.

"Wake me up before you Go Go"
or just to give people nightmares afterwards , I may go for cremation and as I'm being slid into the oven, over the speakers is blasted "I feel like chicken tonight"

Re: Funeral Song
Met em once at a charity football match car park at ware fc when i was working weekends in college days - was probably the single most harrowing experience of my life. Their driver was puffed up with importance and desperately tried to force his car into half a disabled bay then had to back out because the poor woman parked in the bay couldnt get her mothers wheelchair in between the car to get her out. lot of screaming and shouting and complaining about the free food the marvellous ladies in the kitchens had made up. One of the players dislocated his shoulder and everyones focus went on him and they left after another strop. I was getting 5 pound an hour those days - had I not been ferried out to ware fc I would have just left.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:We are the cheeky girls........Is one I've got down.........

This is really difficult to do. I like Beautiful Ride from Walk Hard.
Metric - Blindness
Muse - Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3 is a nice piece of music
Carrie Underwood - See You Again or Wheel of the World
The Black Keys - Unknown Brother or Everlasting Light

I'd have either 'Dead' by They Might be Giants or 'Not Yet' by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. Or 'Down Down' by Status Quo.

Re: Funeral Song
I think Apocalyptica's cover of Nothing Else Matters would be quite appropriate (let's face it - it doesn't once you're gone).
Or A Toute Le Monde by Megadeth.
Or (quite obvious, but still good) Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python.
Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold
Down In A Hole by Alice In Chains
Grateful When You're Dead by Kula Shaker
Spirit In The Sky - the Doctor and the Medics cover
Dust n' Bones by Guns n' Roses
Or possibly, just to creep the funeral goers out a bit, Bring Me to Life by Evanescence
...not that I've given this subject much thought...

It would be the The Blind Boys of Alabama's version of Way Down in the Hole. Great song and the theme from the wire too
There's also Rage Against the Machine's cover of 'Beautiful World'
