Interview With Referee Nigel Owens Empty Interview With Referee Nigel Owens

International ref Nigel Owens takes some time out to give some tips about becoming a referee in his usual charming manner here. http://intheloose.com/2013/05/27/nigel-owens-refereeing-tips/

For me Owens is one of the best refs in the game, a great personality on and off the pitch and his "this is not soccer" speech to Tobias Botes will live long in the memory.

I think he is a good ref. I like him. Probably should stay off twitter though.

I was watching a Cardiff Blues match on tv a couple of years ago when Gethin Jenkins argued that he wasn't offside.

Nigel Owens' voice came over the ref mike, saying "If you don't believe me, Gethin, look at the big screen" (pointing at it).

I think even Gethin laughed!

Probably the best international ref at the moment...

I still like a comment (picked up on the ref mic) when Mike Phillips was trying to ref the game... he said something like "Mike I wasnt great as a scrum half and you're a long way from being a good ref. So you stick to your job and I'll do mine...". They both laughed at each other and got on with it... mark of a ref in control...

Was watching Part 2 of "Living with the Pride" last night being shown on Sky. The Lions where being "beaten up" by one of the SA provinces (think Free State) and the number of late tackles was unbelievable. Shawn Edwards was blowing a blood vessle on the side line shouting at the ref "...late tackle ref...","...and another late one ref...","...how f***ing late do you want it ref..." you get the gist. Anyway, they beat up Hook really bad with the tackling, and he had to be took off as he didnt know his name.. Was surprised to see who the ref was... Nigel, how could you... Shocked

I remember that match. Jaco van der Westhuizen was the worst culprit, as I recall it. But it was the first time I saw Heinrich Brussow play and he was superb.
