The Main Event Mafia - Where did it go wrong?
I haven't watched TNA for a few years now but wanted to ask for your thoughts on this faction.
On paper they have to be one of the best ever! Were there many high points? Where did it go wrong? From what ive read, it doesn't seem to be held in very high regard!

On paper it would have been great 5-10 years previously. With the exception of Angle non of them were in the condition that warranted a top of the card spot (the fact Sting is still there says a lot about TNA!).
The high point was that the MEM was built up in such a way that a dominant face or faces destroying it would have given them a massive boost. The problem was that TNA never pushed a face to look credible to destroy them. In the end they petered out into nothing.
Another low point was Joe joining them for no apparent reason, probably the start of things going wrong for him!

Sting's role in the group was confusing. He didn't seem to commit to playing a heel initially which didn't help the group. I also didn't understand why he wasn't the leader instead of Angle seeing as he held the world title at the formation of the group.

Wait, TNA didnt push a proper face into stopping a big heel faction?! Sounds unlikely on today's eviden...oh wait never mind

In its own way it was brilliantly ironic; a storyline about a loosely-affiliated group of wrestlers who'd been around forever and felt past their sell-by-date, who wanted to hog the spotlight and use politics to stop the younger wrestlers from making it to the top.
Never has a storyline been crying out for a more obvious ending: the young wrestlers prove that they're just as talented as the old guard, and that politics and selfish veterans can't prevent talented wrestlers from rising to the top.
Instead, the main event mafia hogged the spotlight, avoided doing any meaningful jobs, emasculated the babyfaces and, via some political maneuvering and the incompetency of their employers, weaselled their way out of making anyone else look good, and thus strengthened their hold on the main event spots.
Only in TNA...

Re: The Main Event Mafia - Where did it go wrong?
To be fair I enjoyed the main event mafia storyline.
The group had alot of credibility, and were entertaining at times.
Good one being when they took over the show.
Also im sure I have read that it was tnas best time for ratings.
Problem was that the story didnt really go anywhere and didn't create new stars etc As mentioned above
